To answer that last commenter: No they have not gotten better.

A long time ago some very good animators Ken Muse and Ray Patterson, did a brilliant piece of animation combining the live action dance of Gene Kelly with the animation of Jerry the Mouse (IE: Tom and Jerry)

The Family Guy folks simply traced their own character over the original (and brilliant) animation of Jerry the Mouse.

In a sense this is to animation what lip synching (Think Ashley Simpson) is to music.
