Re: Helical Model: Solar System is a Vortex
for something that wants to point out an error in perception, the scale of the video is crazy distorted. also they chose to only show the Sun's motion within the galaxy, but guess what? the Milky Way galaxy is also traveling through space.

Re: The (Super) Supercapacitor
electrical power production has two main failings: first, almost all types of power generation harms the environment in some way (CO2, damming rivers, radiation, bird kills, etc); second, electrical usage varies greatly during the course of a day, but most generation methods work best in a steady state mode, which leads to inefficiencies which make the first problem even greater. this capacitor can only affect the 2nd problem. we still need better ways to generate power in the first place.

Re: Voting Machine in Pennsylvania Not Accepting Votes for Obama, 2012
no conspiracy, it's probably just a miss-calibrated infrared touch screen. just aim a little lower

man, you can tell all these engineers are feeding an ulcer right now. hoping against hope that their portion of the sequence works

Re: Car Skidding + Icy Pavement + Jumping off Car
gotta wonder about people who know about a bad situation, but set up the video recorder to record the mayhem rather than do something about it

Re: Urban Skiing
yeah, that gravel & concrete would be hell on his edges, but i'm not sure that matters with this type of skiing. he's not carving any turns & the "snow" looked pretty sloppy.
either way, this looks like an insane hobby. excellent video

Re: Ted Talks: Richard Resnick: Welcome to the Genomic Revolution
amazing possibilities both good & bad.
one good: many chronic conditions won't be chronic anymore.
one bad: pretty soon lots of us will be denied health insurance once they start checking our code.

Re: NASA's Fermi: How Active Galaxies Can Be
just a guess, but they probably look at the source in other parts of the spectrum i.e. visible light, radio waves, infrared, etc

Re: Take Back the Future - X-Jet
a couple of reasons it failed.
1: noise - it was ear bleeding loud.
2: safety - any mechanical failure would almost certainly result in operator death (no gliding or auto-gyrating to the ground).
3: cost - aircraft are very maintenance intensive & jet engines are very expensive to maintain.
4: payload - only one person with no gear - kinda like a slow million dollar moped that requires an FAA license.
Ain't I a buzzkill
