Re: German Bundeswehr Amphibious Vehicle
Exactly what I was thinking.
The only reason the Germans would need this is if they were planning a campaign where they would be crossing a lot of rivers.

Re: Student Challenges Bachmann on Marriage
Firstly the Christian argument is wrong, they don't own marriage, thats been going on in most is not all cultures for a very one time.
The argument in their favour though, is that if they, in their church don't want to allow gays to be married then thats their business. They can and do have that right. Government shouldn't legislate to force churches / religions to do something they don't want to.
The argument again them though says, yes do whatever you like in your church, just stop trying to force others to stop doing what you don't like. And one of those things is allowing gay couples to legally ( not spiritually ) marry and for them to be afforded, by law, the same rights as a hetro married couple. For instance rights about next of kin, who can be classed as family when visiting hospital or dealing with outer legal issues.
Thats one crazy lady though.

Re: Daredevil Pilot Makes Amazing Soldier Evac
Nope, you missed the bit where the helicopter is hovering dangerously close to the side of a hill.
This in itself is very dangerous and the overall skill in keeping the helicopter stationary, a large helicopter at that. The valley would probably have strong updrafts, although couldn't tell as blades making too much turbulence.
It was also very dangerous for solders who, if things went wrong by a couple of meters could have been hit by the blades.
Many solders die, not by enemy hands, but through accidents and mechanical failures.

What I got from the story is that she is destined to die, by design. Her blood contains whatever is needed to grow new plant life and so the other cyborgs are there to spill that blood.

Re: The Girl Effect: The Clock is Ticking
Over the past hundred+ years of industrialisation we have developed many different medical and scientific advances which have allowed use to increase life expectancy, decrease infant mortality etc...
One thing that was discovered is that it is way more dangerous for a 12 year old to give birth than an adult. Everything from body mass to hip growth and many other things that need to be taken into account, that and the fact we are talking about 3rd world countries where access to doctors / hospitals is pretty much none existent so enhancing the chance of death in childbirth.
You brought words like "dirty" into the discussion and still it seems you don't understand facts over your prejudices.
We also have the right to tell them that children shouldn't be working in a factory of a western company, that is the choice of the company and its customers and not the child's parents.
Comments like "tell them how run to their societies because we're doing such a fantastic job in ours/mine (America)" show how detached you are from the problem. While America has its poor your life expectancy is much greater than in third world countries, you have access to all the basics like clean drinking water etc... and much more like education, a working police force and medical care. So yeah I would say your country is doing much better, unless of course where you live you are living in fear of the next militia that comes along, rapes all the women, takes the children to be child soldiers and chops off your hands so you cant fight back. They want you to live of course so they can come back again in the future and take any food you manage to harvest.
Oh and it happens in the Western World as well, my country (UK) has a few honour killings of children every year when they refuse to be sent to Pakistan to be married off at 12.
Oh and yeah it is the men that are the problem, the girls are the victims.
Happens in my place of birth in UK,

Re: The Girl Effect: The Clock is Ticking
At 12 being sold / married off to a much older man is in effect rape. How many 12 years old girls do you know looking to shack up with someone and have a few kids?
You missed the point in the video completely. At 12 she is taken and from that point has little choice in her future. The pregnancy alone would take care of that, forcing her to say with the man (not that she has a choice anyway) to raise the child and everything that follows from that.
You also seem to think it is easy to walk away, don't know where you are from but in 3rd world countries it is not that easy. Women don't have many rights, her family probably wont take her back and in some cases her family would rather kill her than suffer their perceived shame. It is of course illegal for a woman to want a divorce in some of these places.
I would watch the video again if I were you, try reading and understanding the words and then get a globe and realise the world is much bigger than your back yard.

Re: Doug Stanhope: Fuck the Jews
He attacks Catholics as well and if you listen to the whole CD / video ( he is on spotify ) then he pretty much attacks everybody.
A lot of people wont like what he has to say but he what he says is usually factually correct but offensive to one group or another so it usually doesn't get said.
One of his best bits is about not supporting the troops. He will support them on an individual basis depending on their conduct etc... but he wont just salute and support them all. The ones who joined up just to kill for instance, he doesn't support those. Its and honest and fair point and one that I agree with. Yet say it and people throw bottle at you and threaten you.
So yeah I love doug, seen him live in the UK and would again.

Re: Richard Dawkins on Homosexuality
"The Gay Uncle Theory?"
He's putting it the theory in a context that people understand, so when he says "Sneaky Fucker" it already enables you to visualise what he is discussing. I would say its a bit of tongue in cheek humour as well...
He is discussing different theories, just like you did. He didnt say they were his theories and they were somewhat contradictory. But thats what scientist do, they propose a theory and set about trying to prove it. The theory here is the gene and how can it be passed if it exists.
He did briefly propose another theory without actually discussing it, the gay father theory. Thats observable is our culture today, gay people feel pressured into marriage and children, trying to follow a normal life. Some well known anti gay people have themselves been living like this. Not saying I believe it but until there is an answer im not going to shout anyone down.
In some way it probably is an Atheist agenda though as I cant see many religious people looking for signs of evolution, gay genes, practicing real science etc.... Thats cos they got a book that said god did it.
dumbass

When we are in a triple dip recession and people are losing their jobs he chooses to name his car after the tax form you fill in when losing / leaving employment.
Given his target market it is probably right to assume they would be facing such situations. Either youngish people new to the work market struggling to find any job to those in work, not too old, who enjoy cars and adventures etc...
