Re: George Carlin is in Hell
Fred Phelps reminds me of the Chris Rock bit about the difference between black people and n*ggers. Everything white people hate about black people, black people really hate about black people. Well everything atheists hate about Fred Phelps, Christians (such as myself) really hate about Fred Phelps. He makes all of us look bad. George Carlin was a comedic genius, that goes without saying even though I just said it. He also seemed like a decent person. After all, he spent his career making people laugh.

Re: George Carlin: Class Clown for Kids Only
I guess this is a foreshadowing of Mr. Conductor. But seriously, this really speaks to the genius of Carlin that he was able to be funny with his edgy, vulgar material but he didn't have to rely on the shock value of it to get a laugh. Thus he could be just as funny when doing cleaned up material. Compare this to Bob Saget for example whose whole shtick is "Hey I'm the dad from Full House and I'm going to say fuck a lot."

Re: Kucinich Presents Bush Impeachment Articles: June 9, 2008
While Kucinich presents some valid arguments, something just doesn't sit right with me about impeaching a president every eight years.

Re: There is No Law: US Lawyer Not Guilty of Tax Evasion
They got him drunk and told him he was pretty. But seriously folks, maybe it had something to do with the fact he didn't pay sales tax when he sold illegal liquor, that and his failure to pay the liquor taxes. The way I understand it, this guy is only saying the federal income tax is illegal not things like liquor taxes, sales tax, and the like. If someone more well versed in tax law and the history of the 1920's gangster era wants to correct me, please do so.

Re: Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan's "overspending" won the Cold War. The entire concept of mutually assured destruction and the rest of the foreign policy proceeding Reagan held off nuclear war but did not do anything to halt the stalemate. He knew that by forcing the Soviets to keep up with our defense spending he would bankrupt them before we would run out of money. Say what you want about Reganomics, Voodoo economics, or whatever you want to call it, the fact is that we made it out of the Reagan years and the Soviet Union did not.

Re: White House Calls McClellan a Traitor
You forgot "My Pet Goat". But seriously though, if I were the president I'd never hire a person named McClellan. First Lincoln and Gen. George B. McClellan, now Bush and Scott McClellan. Probably just a coincidence but I wouldn't take my chances.

Re: 'The Atheist' Movie vs Reality
I know this is not the point you were trying to make but it reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from Braveheart.
"In order to find his equal, an Irishman is *forced* to talk to God. "

Re: Choosing My Religion (2)
I was not taking the video seriously, rather Dave's argument which I thought brought up some interesting points.
As far as my argument, I think you are missing the point as far as religious people spreading their religion because of their belief in its truth. It is self evident that religious people will believe their religion to be true regardless of whether they preach their beliefs to others or not. However it is the fact that believers find fulfillment in those beliefs that makes them want to spread their religion. Regarding the Jews and bacon, there is a lot more to religion than dietary laws and so forth. I think they are more happy because they believe that God loves them and hears their prayers, etc. Whether or not you believe that is irrelevant, the fact that they do makes them happy.
As far as M&C, I do agree that I could have thought up a better analogy but I still agree with the basic principle. There are many things other than religion that people hold true and share with others because they find them enjoyable. I stand by what I said, but if I'd had the time and desire I'd have used a better analogy. Then again, the analogy of reducing the Jewish faith to a simple ban on bacon is flawed as well.

Re: Choosing My Religion (2)
Dave, I am going to have to respectfully disagree with your opinion regarding prosthelatizing religions. I think the contrary is true regarding the happiness of believers and their desire for converts. Wouldn't it make sense that someone who is happy and fulfilled in his or her religious beliefs would like to spread that fulfillment to others.
Taking the religious element out of it, the contributers here at Milk and Cookies a kind of prosthelatizing. Someone finds something they like, such as a video or a game or some other link and they share it with everyone on here not because they need to convince themselves that it's a cool link but because they liked and and think other people will as well.

Re: The Crusades: The Crescent and the Cross
I'll agree with you but add that we'll probably be out of their much sooner. Give it a hundred years when their oil runs out and we'll be out of the Middle East and never look back.

Re: Borat: Our War of Terror
That's a shame, but understandable. I mean it's only funny because the people actually believe him, if they were like "Hey it's that dude from the movie!" then it wouldn't work.
By the way, any truth to the rumor I heard that Sascha Baron Cohen is going to play Freddy Mercury in a Queen biopic?

Re: McSame As Bush
Yeah if you compare the McCain picture to the Obama picture, it's clear where the bias resides.
