And don't forget Tom Noonan, who has been in seemingly everything.

Re: Rep. Alan Grayson on the Situation Room
"These nattering nabobs of negativism" - 2:46. That was such a crazy phrase I decided to look it up. From what I can tell it was introduced by Spiro Agnew, VP under Nixon, and written by Pat Buchanan. I wonder if Grayson is aware of that. I feel like he would be. I guess it's somewhat ironic that he would use a republican's words against their party, especially one that was as dramatic as Spiro.
If Grayson made this reference intentionally I think that would be pretty brilliant. It would show he has studied the conservatives and and is using what worked against them. This is just a small phrase of alliteration, but it may indicate a larger plan in the works.
Or I could be making a lot out of nothing, which I have been prone to do.

Re: Letterman Talks about the Extortion
I honestly don't care about his personal escapade's. It's interesting though that he chose to confront this thing head on and not simply wait for it to go away, or be dug up by the media.
I don't think I can judge the guy, especially without knowing the facts. I just think the way he's handling it is fascinating. Lord knows the tabloid people won't let it go until every detail is uncovered though, so I doubt this will be the end of it.

Re: High Five New York City
Pretty awesome the range of reaction. From amusement to anger. But I think the worst is when there is no reaction at all. To me that says they are either just so frozen with fear of interacting with something foreign, or they are mindless sheep and would do anything to avoid a change of the norm.
Be happy, get angry, do anything, but don't just keep your head down and try to pretend it didn't happen. That's the absolute worst to me.

Re: Jenny Slate drops F-bomb on SNL
Who gives a fuck?
Ok maybe that was lame, but honestly, are we that fragile that the simple use of the word can be offensive, or is it a matter of context? I don't think this was a very explicit use, so I sincerely hope that this will be overlooked.
Even if it wasn't I would have no objection to it, though I know there are those out there that would wish to shelter or be sheltered, and unfortunately we must for the time being respect the wishes of our fellow humans when it comes to decency.
PS - Sad that this was the most memorable moment from the episode.

Re: Brisco County Jr: The Orb Scholar, Ep 101
"Nobody touches Pete's Piece!"
This show was light fun, though I'd agree there were flaws. I think the whole sci fi orb mythos was mishandled in the writing. Bruce really sells it though, so its lasting entertainment.

Re: Ted Turner Interviews Carl Sagan
I think the number of active nuclear weapons has been substantially reduced beginning in the early 90's. I remember hearing something about it and that much of the stock pile in the US was reduced during GW Bush's administration. I think we're down to 2,500 or something like that, which is around the number Carl Sagan gives to destroy every major city on Earth? Someone correct me if Im wrong.

Re: 8,800 Pennies!
Its not about their accepting legal tender, its about refusing service.
A business can refuse service to anyone as long as it is not based on religion, race, sex, creed, sexuality, etc. All snopes says is that a penny is valid legal tender recognized by the U. S. government. This business does recognize legal tender as payment. Thats not in debate. There is nothing in the U.S. code or anywhere else that says they must serve anyone who wishes to make payment.
They can absolutely refuse service to someone who is causing a disturbance or intentionally causing difficulties for the business, or wasting their time. This would eventually have to be ruled on in a court, but I think that a judge would rule in the favor of the business. The debate isn't over if it is a valid form of payment. Its about the businesses ability to refuse service to a customer who is making an effort to be difficult.

Re: Atheist Summer Camp Launched
I guess I'm looking for what is the correct usage of the term.
I myself am not religious, but I would not presume to tell someone else that they are wrong. So to me, a rejection of a belief and a disbelief (advocacy against it) are not inherently the same thing.
But then again, I am not an expert so I was hoping to get another perspective. Is my line of thinking logically accurate?

Re: Atheist Summer Camp Launched
This may be nothing but semantics, but I'll proceed anyway and hopefully someone can validate or correct me.
I had thought atheism was not a belief against God, but a refusal to accept the belief. This post then would more accurately be labeled as anti-religion camp, which atheism is not, correct?
Therefore, there would be no such thing as an atheism advocate because that would require they have a belief that there is no God. Atheists don't say, "There is no God". Rather, "I do not accept that there is a God."
Atheism is not a belief or a disbelief, but a rejection of others beliefs.
They could be considered the same thing, or that one would lead inevitably to the other, making them equivalent.
I'm willing to accept that I am completely wrong here. Can anyone else help out?

We won't really get an accurate translation though unless we go to the earliest version available. That's a job for some serious scholarly investigation, but I doubt anyone will be following up on this anytime soon.
