I work in Manhattan, and I used to go through the Times Square stop everyday. There was a real guy, which I am convinced this movie was based on, who really did carry that sign. I never saw anybody take him up on it, but I appreciated his wit and gave him some change once in a while.
In reality though, yelling at a homeless guy, reguardless of a mutual financial transaction, doesn't seem like it would be very satisfying.
