Re: Banned Bush Interview
You can't imagine where the world would be if a "push-over liberal like Al Gore were president?" Let me assist.

A month before 9/11, Bush received a memo that said: "Bin Ladin Determined to Strike in US." When agents urgently briefed Bush on their fears of an imminent attack, Bush dismissed them with the comment: "All right. You've covered your ass, now," according to Ronald Suskind's excellent book, "The One Percent Doctrine."

If Gore were president, maybe he would have acted.

We know what Bush did. Nothing.

Re: Electric Co: One Word Comes After Another
Man, thanks for the trip down memory lane. I just spent the last half hour watching Electric Company clips on youtube. Here's a classic: Bill Cosby and Morgan Freeman in a 3 Musketeers sketch. Freeman starts laughing at Cosby at the end, it's pretty funny.

Re: CBS Fires General Batiste Over VoteVets Ad
The problem here is how major news networks routinely pay generals, retired FBI guys, and the like as "consultants" to work as talking heads on call. It's a shortsighted practice -- what happens when those consultants make news? CBS is suddenly in a quandary because their "consultant" is now in the middle of a major news maelstrom of his own making, by appearing in an ad that is critical of the war. The network probably let the guy go because otherwise they'd be covering a story about someone on their payroll. Not good.

You're correct that there's no shortage of officials and pundits who cheerlead for Bush on the cable shows. But I can't think of any of them who cross the line and appear on advertisements sponsored by an interest group. Maybe there are, but I can't think of any. And if there have been, they should be let go, too.

CBS painted itself into a corner by hiring a newsmaker -- a top general who until recently helped oversee one of the most controversial conflicts in American history. They should have treated him as a newsmaker and not paid him a dime.

Re: Dear America: Letters Home from Viet Nam
This video should be watched by every wingnut who believes supporting our troops means sending them off to fight a senseless war.

Re: Top Gear: Alabama
"Staged" the gas station scene? Are you kidding? It's not too difficult to imagine that kind of confrontation happening in the deep south. Not only would the owner of the gas station "have time" to confront liberal, possibly gay men, she'd make a point to do it.

Re: Penn and Teller: Intelligent Design
Interesting ... most of the ratings are either "lame" or "amazing." Makes sense. There's not much middle ground on this issue.

I would like to know what skeptics of evolution have to say about antibiotics. Explain why a drug can efficiently kill germs at first, but then a few germs with slightly different DNA are able to resist the medication. Those germs survive and multiply by the billions, until you have a medicine that is worthless.

Isn't that survival of the fittest, or evolution on a microscopic scale?

Re: A year in Iraq in 5 minutes
Yes, if it wasn't for the media, we wouldn't have to learn about all those inconvenient terrorist attacks, beheadings, kidnappings, road-side bombings, mortar strikes, downed choppers, sniper fire, collateral damage, and the horrendous mental and physical toll on our troops.

Iraq is extremely safe; only dozens of journalists have died trying to show us what's happening there.

Re: Fox News Blasphemy Challenge
The problem with this debate is, religion has all the bases covered.

If you ask, "Where is the evidence that God exists?" The answer is, "You must have faith."

If you ask, "Why would a good, all-powerful God allow suffering on Earth?" the answer is, "It's part of God's master plan, and we aren't smart enough to know his plan."

Every answer is a non-answer.

Religion made sense to our ancestors when they thought the Sun orbited the Earth, and they wondered what caused lightning. Now we know our planet is a speck in eternity. It just seems astoundingly egotistical to believe God made the universe for a bunch of chatty monkeys like us.

Re: What Country Starts With U?
It would be interesting to know how many people were interviewed, and how many gave articulate answers. However, this video is quite long, and it's filled with a large, diverse group of people who all appear utterly clueless. I found myself laughing in disbelief at first, then getting a bit disheartened.
