Re: The Daily Show: Jan Terri's Music Videos
I don't think that the "retarded" and "ugly dumb" lady is clinically mentally challenged... and so that's cool.

This is not too different from The Daily Show making fun of other interesting pockets of society.

Re: Incredible Goalie Theft
I don't think it's an offside... Offside involves passing the ball beyond the opposing team's last line of defense.

Looks legit. @@;;

Re: Daily Show: Terry McAuliffe
That's one soldier boy that every campaign 'd like to have.

Compared to some nights on the news and commentary circuit, Jon didn't go too hard on him.

Re: Olbermann: Scott McClellan Interview
Indeed. I recall the DR-Show saying something like, this is damage control 101; attack the messenger, not the message.

Much of what McClellan put forth has already surfaced across the years. There are plenty of books that presents the inner workings of the Bush Whitehouse through accounts of anonymous sources (eg. Fiasco, Thomas Ricks) or otherwise (eg. Against All Enemies, Richard Clarke).

What's fresh is that this is from sweaty stonewall McClellan... ;)

Re: The Hidden Story of Jesus
Hmmm. You can infer the religions from the paragraph that follows the one that contains your quote. For example, Osiris, from the Ancient Egyptian religion(s). There is not a unifying name like "Christianity" as there are plenty of deities. Groups obsessed with a certain one are known as cults, for example, "The Cult of Isis."

Re: The Hidden Story of Jesus
There is a whole class of religions that the story of Jesus is similar to; the "Mysteries" religions... a subset of these religions is known as Paganism.

The dying-resurrecting god-man myth is prevalent in many ancient religions, in Egypt, there is Osiris-Horus, the Greeks have Dionysus, Persia has Mithras, Adonis in Syria... etc etc. These myths, Jesus' inclusive, share similar themes such as virgin birth, death and resurrection/rebirth, etc.

There is Christianity generally understood, and there is Christianity in academia. If you need references and sources, check out the book The Jesus Mysteries, by Freke and Gandy.

Re: Worlds Noisiest Neighborhood
It's actually in Kowloon Hong Kong.

The airport in question was called Kai Tak, one of the most dangerous major international airports to make a landing in; the planes in the footage were trying exactly that. The compound effect of the length of the runway and the geography around the airport made such proximity necessary.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kai_Tak

You are right about the second point though; they did scrap Kai Tak and got one far away from urban centers.

Re: Christopher Hitchens & "Crazy" Bill Donohue on Mother Teresa
Why did Hardball get the Catholic League(CL) and Donohue? Is there a defamation here? The Theresa letters were released by the Vatican in the process of beatification of Mother Theresa... a step in the direction of Saint-hood. Apparently, on the path of saints, doubt (in one's faith) is anticipated.

Donohue doesn't represent Catholics in America, much like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson do not represent African Americans. Donohue did not mention the information stated above, which a bystander like myself know; he probably did not read the Time article in question... or that he is too obsessed with shouting at Hitchens.

Re: Have You Ever Heard of Conservapedia?
Thanks for the link!

Hmmm... from the linked page, click on another link which resides on top of the Conservapedia stats... this:

http://www.conservapedia.com/Special:Statistics

You will see that the stats are furbished by Conservapedia itself.

You don't have to spend more than an instance at the page to be considered a 'hit', so time spent on each page does not matter much.

Besides, the "Homosexuality and [insert affliction here]" links are linked from the main page describing homosexuality, and it seems totally reasonable that one is lead there by reading the main homo page.

Really, when one looks for information on Conservapedia (or sources of the like), they are looking for information which reinforces what they already believe; even conservatives won't find information about, say, drugs and electronics via Conservapedia. With regards to the use of homosexuality as a wedge issue recently, the stats might really be believable.
