Re: SNL: David Bowie and Klaus Nomi
When Nirvama sang it, it was one of a few times where a cover was better than an original.

Re: Dave Letterman's Bear Story
Whether it makes you burst out laughing or just puts a smile on your face, letterman just has the purest form of humor of any comedian. It's not funny because it's edgy, gross, offensive, ironic, revolutionary and no ones falling off their bike as an expense. It's that unadulterated strain of humor that could probably only be told by a funny looking, goofy voiced clown that letterman is.
It's what makes this so funny, and it's what put him on Late Night TV for the past 20 years.

Re: Marijuana and Driving
I've always used the word stoned to explain the mindset I'm in after I've smoked a BUNCH. To me there's a difference between high (after a couple of puffs) and stoned (after a couple bowls). I would say this person had a high tolerance and was only slightly high.
Like buzzed vs. drunk.
I would never have driven stoned. Paranoia in itself is bad for judgment, not to mention I am positive my judgment is extremely impaired by then. I've driven high . . . that's no biggy.

Re: Marijuana and Driving
Pot was originally made illegal, not for the drug's effects with human consumption but instead it was HEMP that was made illegal. Dupont back in the early 1900s were manufacturing synthetic materials, and they saw hemp as a possible threat to their sales. And so they "lobbied" to get it banned in the U.S. This banned cannabis in any form.
Not too many people, it seems, realize this. Otherwise I don't think it would be taken as seriously as it is now. And you can thank the ignorant public for that. Anti-drug campaigns have done a great job stereotyping and slandering its use (by people that don't even know when marijuana is)
I quit smoking pot a few months ago, basically for the reason you just described. I would reword it a bit: It makes you appreciate the small things. and by that it gives you a huge sense of accomplishment for very small feats, with less motivation to set larger goals.

Re: Late Show: Where's Joaquin Phoenix?: 2/11/09
Some other examples: Coach Mike Singletary's interviews of similar material as this interview. The awkward late show intern who writes Obama jokes.
Remember when Matt Damon flipped out on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and people everywhere thought it was real? Yeah it's like that.
Gullible on the ceiling.

Dude. He's playing along . . it's really not that hard, they're professionals buddy. Refer to Crispin Glover's appearence in 1987 (when he acts crazy and letterman looks extremely offended) then in 1990 (when he acts normal) . . . it's just entertainment, and sometimes naive people think it's actually real.
Also refer to Joaquin's previous appearence where him and letterman have a great time. Dude. It's scripted.

Re: Late Show: Where's Joaquin Phoenix?: 2/11/09
this was all scripted, I've been watching Letterman forever and he does tons of stuff like this. Letterman just created a funny role for Joaquin Phoenix to play for laughs and publicity. Like Bruce Willis has a wig he always wears when he comes in, and his Late Show writers always play really socially awkward people. Very dry comedy which is the best IMO
Can't believe how many people thought this was real. Seriously, watch it again.

Re: Mac vs Pc
I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me.
I just saw my buddy's linux-based comp transform the other day---into a stoned open-sourced hippy that just sat there. Not too exciting, but we managed to score some decent goodies off him.

Re: CNN's Rick Sanchez vs "Joe the Plumber"
Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin are victims of a society that pities ignorance like we pity people with disabilities.
They need a voice, but they shouldn't be given a gun.
