Re: Nearly Unanimous Vote for Obama = "Split" on Fox
People like to be on the winning/popular team.

Same reason people care about box office sales for movies. Its stupid and pointless, but for some reason people really care.

Re: Bush Prolongs Iraq War for Political Purposes
What people need to start doing is not voting for 3rd party candidates because they'll win (which they won't anytime soon), but because the candidates they're not voting for will have to start addressing their concerns.

I don't understand why people complain about Nader "stealing" votes from Gore in 2000 instead of complaining about Gore not doing enough to win over those voters.

People need to start voting for who they really believe in instead of just voting for who might win or not voting at all.

Re: Sarah Silverman: The Great Schlep
Really? That's what your going with?

Sarah is hotter, and probably more fun I'd imagine.

Palin would just tell you, "Thanks but not thanks."

Well, it helps that the politicians haven't gotten any smarter.

Re: Ferguson: If You Don't Vote, You're a Moron
I'm glad to see that there is another person here that can resist the Personality Cult of Carlin.

Not saying I never laughed at the guys jokes, but it's annoying how so many people try to be like Carlin and go with the, "Carlin said it so agree with it!" line of thinking.

Yes, voting is important. No other way around it. I do wish more people would vote third party though. In 2004 I voted third party because I just couldn't bring myself to support Kerry. The man was a tool.

"Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried." This line is really true. Democracy really sucks, especially when the people you want to win lose. It's the best we've got though, and we've all got to work together to make it better.

Re: Don't Talk to the Police by Professor James Duane
At first I was afraid this was going to be another "F' the police!" sorta thing. I know a couple of those crazy libertarians who really believe the best way to deal with police is to nearly verbally assualt them and scream "WHAT IS YOUR BADGE NUMBER!" and such.

But actually this had very good points and I think I might take this stuff into consideration. It would be nice to see the counter point for sure.

Re: Christopher Hitchens is Waterboarded
1. I'd be at the Treaty of Versailles right after WWI and be like, guys, don't be a dick to Germany. Hitler never comes to power. WIN

2. Go to the Regan Administration and be like, don't support Sadam? Ok? Sadam doesn't come to power. WIN.

3. What if New Zeland drops an A-Bomb on Perth but professes love for hot cakes? Do you attack hot cakes?

4. What if the American justice systems allows states to execute prisoners and OH GOD WAIT NO!

So either your questions are preventable scenarios or are stupid.

Re: Electric Powered VW Beetle
Though I wonder if you add in wind, geothermal, hydro, and eventually space-solar power what we'd need.

And mostly, I think we can get a lot of our solar power not from building a giant solar energy station, but just using it on space we have now, e.g. roofs of houses and buildings, roofs of cars, backyards, ect.

As hilarious as this was, I wish people had the balls to point out the empty rhetoric of these people back in oh....2002 or so. You know, when it actually might have made a difference.

Re: Obama Speech: 'A More Perfect Union'
I was reallly on the fence with Obama. It takes a lot for me to say I like a politician. Back in '04 I didn't have a single nice thing to say about Kerry and voted third party, have voted libertarian in many local elections, and have even voted against some of my best friends when they ran for local elections because I didn't like the way they would have done things.

But wow. This was the first speech that actually felt like a speech instead of a "big ol' list of takin' points" I've ever seen a politician give.

I'm actually now thinking about volunteering with his capaign. And that's a big deal for me.

Re: Daily Show: Marines in Berkley
I am a pretty crazy liberal.

But really? I'm just going to tell myself that Code Pink is actual a government cover-up funded by Republicans to destroy the reputation of actual sane liberals.

I went to one anti-war protest a few years back and swore 'em off when a bunch of ladies dressed as pink flamingos tried to convience us to hold a "die in" and sing "we shall overcome" was a good idea.

Please stop giving liberals a bad name.
