regardless, weather it was started as a scam or weather they really believed what they were saying it is no matter. All Religion is wrong.
When people first appeared on Earth, it was a scary place. Our knowledge was primitive, so it was natural that we would invent "Gods" to comfort us. We are (or should be) intelligent enough now to a.) No longer fear the unknown. and b.) no longer believe in Gods.
Do you still believe thunder is an angry god? No, of course not, yet you still believe in this two thousand year old superstition. We may not have all the answers yet, but we will, and the religious nuts of the world can not allow that to happen, it would mean an end to their money making fraud.
