Re: The Petaminx
It might not be that bad. The center of the 5x5x5 is a 3x3x3 which is actually easier to solve than a normal 3x3x3. The extra moves give you more options, but it still takes longer.

Re: Ron Paul: In the Name of Patriotism
"The true patriot ... rejects the notion that patriotism means obedience to the state." -Ron Paul
A patriot is someone who loves their country and someone who takes responsibility for the well being and rights of their fellow citizens. You don't have to support particular socialist policies or class warfare economic policies to do that. We each have our own interests. People who run food drives and take no interest in economics are still patriotic.
Patriotism has to do with care. It doesn't make any difference what your religious world view is or your stance on abortion or marriage.

Re: You're Just Atheists Because You Want to Sin
I'll have to check it out that website when I get home. The policy here at work blocks it under the heading "Occult". Of course, I have no problems getting to www.bible.com, www.catholic.com, www.islam.com, www.christian.com, etc.

So how do you defeat it? Shoot it in the camera?

Re: Electric Powered VW Beetle
Assuming 12% efficiency, you would need about 850,000 square km. This would be an area about 20% larger than the state of Texas. Of course, this would be assuming that your panels would be in CONSTANT exposure to sunlight. Last I checked, it still gets dark out.
Part of the reason NASA gets such good efficiency our of their panels is that they can keep them going 24/7. Also, they never have cloudy days and the sunlight is a little bit stronger once you get outside the atmosphere.

Re: McCain: Not Eligible To Be President
From wikipedia:
There is also some debate over whether there is a meaningful legal distinction between citizens "at birth" and citizens "by birth" since U.S. law makes no such distinction, nor does the Fourteenth Amendment use the term "at birth." Current U.S. statutes define certain individuals born overseas as "citizens at birth."[4] One side of the argument interprets the Constitution as meaning that a person either is born in the United States or is a naturalized citizen. According to this view, in order to be a "natural born citizen," a person must be born in the United States; otherwise, he is a citizen "by law" and is therefore "naturalized."[5]
The Panama Canal Zone was considered to be outside the United States; otherwise these two sections, 8 USC 1401(c) and 8 USC 1403(a), would never have been needed to be codified into law in the first place; 8 USC 1401(a) would apply instead.

Re: McCain: Not Eligible To Be President
Also, it's odd that neither the RNC and nor McCain’s opponents have said anything. It doesn’t make sense that the republicans would nominate someone whose eligibility is in question. It’s odd that Huckabee decided to stall McCain’s nomination on the delegate count but didn't say anything about the more important question.

Re: McCain: Not Eligible To Be President
There are strong arguments both for and against McCain's eligibility. Even if McCain did win in the general election, this matter would still go to the Supreme Court. If the Supreme Court decided that he was ineligible, the democrats would be uncontested. The court's decision would then go to the House, which currently has a democratic majority. It is possible that new House representatives could not be legally sworn in before this was decided, and thus allow the democrats to pick whoever they want for office.

Re: NOVA scienceNOW: An Elevator to Space?
The longest I've heard of is 4.0 cm. But, you wouldn't make the entire cable length a single molecule. It would be twisted from shorter strands just like rope. Also, it would likely be quite a bit longer than 22000 miles. That's just the distance to GEO and you would need more ribbon to counterbalance the weight beyond that. An elevator on the moon would be more feasible (in theory) because of the lower gravity, less debri and no grounding issues.

Re: Have You Ever Heard of Conservapedia?
I remember months ago when I first found conservapedia, and just to clarify, I'm not a conservative or a homophobe and I'm all for gay rights. But, just for laughs, I did visit the following pages:
God
America
George W. Bush
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Homosexuality
Abortion
Atheism
Republican Party
Liberal
Operation Iraqi Freedom
Islam
Basically, I was looking for pages that had striking dissimilarity with wikipedia. The point is that the pageview results may be scewed by nonconservatives. Especially those that IM their friends "You won't believe this page!"

Re: Orwell Rolls in His Grave
I don't see that religion enters into this at all except where it's being used as a tool to further brainwash people. The focus on Islam, while relevant to the middle east, is just the latest carrot being dangled in our view to keep that view from wandering. However, our media isn't entirely worthless. I just watched Ted Koppel's expose on the prison system in California. It was very good journalism. Corporate media supports their own money and power more than any given party. They influence elections in both parties. They have stolen our political system and are selling a semblance of it back to us.

And no, the landings weren't fake. Neil Armstrong left a panel of mirrors on the moon, and we can hit it with lasers and have the light reflect back to earth. This lets us find the distance to the moon within a few centimeters!
