Re: Neil Young - Like A Hurricane
Bigole Neil Young fan, but this film always makes me wish I was blind, and that I had no friends in the world -- just to prevent one from stopping by while I was "watching" and describing all the bloated, first-thought-worst-thought, jawa-ish scenes of holy-god-get-off-the-screen-Neil-how-could-you?, and ruining the jammin', jammin' playing for me. Damn, I can't catch a break.

Re: Ella Fitzgerald: "Summertime," 1968
That was really sensational. Ain't so simple to squeeze an arrangement that skeletal neither -- cool-ass restraint by the Tee Carson fellers. And holymoly, suspect Ella was the beautifulist thing happening on the planet right then.

Re: Louis Armstrong: Rhapsody in Black & Blue
Doggonit, it seems my wife has acid-dosed my morning coffee again. What a prankster! Regardless, it seems young Mr. Armstrong was enjoying himself. Made me sorta cringe and hope nobody was standing over my shoulder though. There wasn't. Just the dog. And he was playing gameboy, so didn't notice nothing.

Re: Blind Willie Johnson- Trouble Soon be Over
I do believe the young miss is his first wife (named Willie, as well). He married another lady later, a singer named Angeline, but it was his first wife who was on the recordings (I think).

Re: Albert King: Born Under a Bad Sign, Live
Well, I'll be damned. I never knew Lucy was a righty flying-V played lefty. That's why this site is gadblern great. I hadn't even the foggiest I'd be contemplating Lucy at all when I woke up this morning. And now look at me: one thing smarter.

Re: Nintendo vs. Radiohead
This made me smile. Well done. Neato to hear it all broken down so cleanly. I'd rather listen to this any day vs. the afro'd piano man from a few weeks back, whose playing was so lousy that I can't stop thinking about it. He's probably too shy, but I wish the glass harp guy would say something really cutting to the afro man that would -- yes, sadly -- hurt the afro man's feelings, but more importantly cause him to reconsider his career direction. Anyhow, I enjoyed the Nintendo Radiohead.

Re: Soldier Boy -The Shirelles
Whoa.... That scared me right outta bed. I showed my wife, and a white stripe appeared in her hair. On the other hand, I showed my neighbor, and he quit smoking. Silver lining!

Re: SRV: Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)
Excellent. Most excellent. That said, I find the 1983 version even better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IulOOX-NbTc. Dangerous as a mutha, just barreling, right on the edge. Awww man, at 4:40 (on the link), that must've felt beautiful.
