well they do classics because its like..a classic most people know the plots of the movies even though they never saw the movie itself. this way they can relate to it. If you did a popular movie of today some people wont know whats going on. like for example not everyone has seen whitechicks or spiderman2 so if you did a 30 sec version of it alot of people might be confused.
