Well, I'm posting nearly a month after this entry, but I'm doing so because I feel very similar to Shadowbot's post about "too many headlines"...
Back when I first starting using M&C, it felt like quite an honor to get a headline. I would look long and hard for quality links to post in the small hope of getting one posted on the front page. The headline link would get thousands of views, and those links were definitely premium quality.
Then headlines started appearing more and more. Getting a headline didn't seem so special....views started to drop.
Then it got the the point that even just view headlines took too much time...headlines had only a couple hundred views, and where I barely saw much of a difference from the regular submitted links. That is when I stopped spending much time on the site at all....
(You say that traffic has been steady, but from a user stand point, we don't see total traffic flow, we only see links viewed.... choosing to speed time on a video with 100 views certainly doesn't have the psychological appeal as a link with 10000 views...and watching a headline from a few days a go with no comments makes me want to cry....)
I still come here on occasion when I'm bored...but no where near what it use to be....I often feel overwhelmed now looking at the hordes of links....
I used to love forwarding quirky sites and videos from this site, and my friends would asked me "where do you find this sh*t"...now that has almost completely finished.
I've felt sad about my lack of attention to this site which I've loved since I first found it...but there is little I feel I can do to change that at the current moment.
I realize that probably originally you where hand picking the headlines, and now less so...(or maybe you are doing too much so)...but in my opinion something on the surface needs to slow down on this site to make it more enjoyable again...easy to view on a whim...better worth the our time when there are hundreds of other lame sites that post links too.
