I never said I supported the right of return. I was just poking fun at your comment (which I found a little ridiculous). You'll be happy to know that I knew about the Pact of Umar and I fail to see your point. It allowed people of other faiths to live in the conquered lands. Its friggin 1400 years old and much farther advanced than anything those Taliban islamofascists would like. Much better than anything they did in Europe hundreds of years after it.
Israel is not going anywhere okay.
No one thinks it is.
That is a strawman argument used by apologists of state terror.
Israel is the oppressor. End of discussion. Talk all you want about Arab citizens and democracy and peace loving kibbutzs but if Israel continues to be run by these coalitions of fascists who treat the Palestinians like dogs, well, you ensure much of the world sees Hamas as freedom fighters instead of the terrorists they are.

I dont think we are disagreeing that much here. I'm saying that Hamas has sway because of the actions of the Israeli government. Religion can be used to serve many purposes (ask Bush and his thoughts on his religious quest into Mesopotamia) and in this case it serves to justify the actions of a desperate and depraved people.
How are Palestinians supposed to rise up against Hamas when it is Hamas that runs their schools and hospitals and feeds the meek and elderly?
The Iraq argument really doesn't fit here. I fail to see any equivalency.
There is an obvious power inequality in the Palestinian/Israeli relationship. Take some of those billions you get from the US and instead of spending it on missiles, feed some people, kick those fascist settlers out of the disputed land and lets get on with being good to each other.
I fail to see the rationale of the last 30 years of Israeli foreign policy. It's fucking Holocaust baggage and everyone can see it. Machismo "never again" bullshit. Be the bigger people, go pre-67 and help them grow their olive groves. Eventually they'll bulldoze the terrorists' homes themselves and you can stop the collective punishment....

Maybe because a few million people have been living in a refugee camp for 40 years while the people with the tanks and bulldozers enjoy pizza, xbox and international travel. The arc of human history shows that you have to provide hope. And (with the Jews as a prime example) the oppressed becomes the oppressor. Good times.

Though I support gay marriage I actually (as painful as this is) agree with Tony on the red herring point. How exactly is woman/man marriage the same as same sex marriage? You can't have it both ways. If I am "colour blind" and don't give two shits about the colour of a man or woman's skin in a heterosexual marriage how does this have anything to do with a homosexual marriage? Are there not about ten thousand variables different with that situation?!?

You really have to reach to claim that Iraq is the aggressor when you have no UN Security Council permission, there is no claim of self-defence and the U.S. has been complicit in Saddam being in power for all those decades. I'm not saying that the U.S. are necessarily the aggressors either, but your argument suggests that Bush could be deemed an "aggressor" and deposed himself.
Not sure how you can call Chomsky a liar when he is simply giving his opinion based on hard facts (the man is notorious for citing everything -- check out his work -- it is academically spotless). I think that is an ad hominem argument to shield your viewpoint from his strong case.
