Recorded in various bursts of activity over 2010 and 2011 along with an updated mix of live staple "The Light" from The Solipsist EP (Noyes Records, 2010), lyrically, the album answers a question posed in Jean Baudrillard's essay from The Vital Illusion: "Is a ghost history, a spectral history, still a history?" Where KESTRELS' debut LP Primary Colours (Noyes Records, 2009) was a relatively safe sonic affair, their sophomore full length A Ghost History, their first for revered Canadian independent label Sonic Unyon Records, ups the ante considerably. Self-producing the record to ensure it met their own standards, sometimes refining and re-recording songs multiple times over the year (album closer "The Past Rests" was tracked 23 times in four different recording sessions) until everyone was satisfied). The results jump out of the speakers — from the opening drone and washed-out guitar of "Drowning Girl", the screeching crescendos of "The Field Where I Died", and to the alien lines all over the first single "There All The Time Without You". Even Tim Wheeler of Irish band Ash, the teenage hero of Peck's who struck up a friendship with Peck backstage at an Ash show in 2003, drops by to guest on album standout "Dumb Angel", featuring Wheeler's inimitable guitar style front and center. Blending earnest lyrics & an endearing sense of melody with an updated take on 90's indie rock guitar histrionics, and now based in Halifax, Toronto and Montreal, KESTRELS' A Ghost History delivers on the promises made on the early releases by the band. Kestrels are Chad Peck, Devin Peck (bass), and Paul Brown (drums). Feb 27, 2013 4:52 PM

Unmoderated Tag: Sci-Fi and Fantasy Rating: Ok Hits: 123 Comments: 1 All-Night Show Theme All-Night Show Theme Opening montage of the All-Night Shows programs that were running on any given week In 1980, CFMT made a bold move by being one of the first stations in Canada to go to 24-hour a day 7 day a week broadcasting with the introduction of The All-Night Show, starring Toronto comedian Chas Lawther, broadcast generally between midnight and 6 AM. The premise was that Lawther's character Chuck the Security Guard had, with the help of his never seen technically minded friend Ryerson (named after Toronto's Ryerson Polytechnic, now Ryerson University), took over the facilities of CFMT and accidentally broadcast their favorite shows over the air while fooling around with the equipment. Dan Iannuzzi, the station's owner at the time, was suitably impressed and gave Chuck and Ryerson their own show. The All-Night Show generally showed re-runs of classic series such as The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits and The Prisoner, and filled the space in between with music videos (including old Scopitones), old movie shorts and comedic banter. Lawther became a minor celebrity in Toronto and is still frequently seen on Canadian television. Although the show only lasted one year and ended in a contract dispute (despite surprisingly high ratings even in the days before widespread VCR use), 24 hour a day broadcasting became the standard for almost every television station in the years after the show. Unmoderated Tag: Dance Rating: Amazing Hits: 196 Comments: 0 Autistic Girl with DiGeorge Syndrome Memorized Coppelia Ballet!!!!!! Autistic Girl with DiGeorge Syndrome Memorized Coppelia Ballet!!!!!! We knew Clara loved the Coppelia ballet, but little did we know she memorized the whole thing! She performed this solely from memory! This is just a small snippet of her dancing to it. We would see her doing some ballet moves around the house thinking it was ballet moves she learnt in ballet class, till one day someone decided to whip out a computer and compare her moves to that of the Coppelia ballerina, and, VOILA, we realized she memorized it, and can dance it! Clara has been diagnosed with DiGeorge Syndrome and Autism. She spent her first 16 months in hospital, has gone through multiple surgeries since she was two weeks due to the complications with her syndrome. Before she was two, we noticed that she had difficulty connecting with people, was in a world of her own, and two years later she was also diagnosed with autism. Clara also had a lot of physical complications, and could not walk till she was four. She never spoke until she was six. However Clara thrived in the Intensive Multi Treatment Intervention program (see www.IMTI.ca and www.challengethemyths.com), based in Toronto, and has blossomed into a lively dancing queen who always loves an audience!!! Never underestimate your child's potential! Doctors told us when she was born to forget about her - we could just have another baby... It takes more than a village to raise a special needs child.
