I think the number of active nuclear weapons has been substantially reduced beginning in the early 90's. I remember hearing something about it and that much of the stock pile in the US was reduced during GW Bush's administration. I think we're down to 2,500 or something like that, which is around the number Carl Sagan gives to destroy every major city on Earth? Someone correct me if Im wrong.
