Three Torture Myths
Former FBI Interrogator Jack Cloonan explains that regular interrogation tactics work well on even the worst terrorists, that there's no such thing as a "ticking timebomb" scenario, and that waterboarding has done much more harm than good. You can also see interviews with Jack Cloonan in the Oscar award-winning documentary, "Taxi to the Darkside." For more, visit http://www.foreignpolicy.com

Re: Three Torture Myths
"Interviews" like this really bother me. I know, at some point in the near future, I will have to debate someone who watched this, and they will spew back all those mindless talking points. This is nothing more than one man's opinion. His previous employment does not lend itself to increased credibility of said opinion.

You want a valuable interview, how about asking questions on how he feels we can repair the damage wrought by our interrogation methods? There's something worth talking about. Don't dwell in the past, look for solutions for the future.

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Re: Three Torture Myths
"Mindless talking points"?

There are countless individuals with experience (not to mention all the Ivory Tower academics) who feel the same way. Do you fear the upcoming debate because you have no response?

Are you not gonna ape Dershowitz?

You want him to suggest how to repair the damage? He is an interrogator, not an FP specialist who is ready to talk at length about trade, policy, culture, demographics, etc etc etc...

Quite frankly I dont get your post at all.

Re: Three Torture Myths
Let me take a crack at unpacking it... That post is nothing more than one man's opinion about a video he saw on the internet.

At some point in the future, someone's going to spew back all these talking points in a debate with Whiskey, and he'll still be woefully unprepared. Because Jack Cloonan is basically right. And at some point in the future, he'll still be right.

Not true at all. This is not just "one man's opinion" coming from some know-nothing knucklehead like you or me or Dick Cheney.

This is coming from a former FBI interrogator who has an intelligent perspective based upon first-hand experience.

And his experience absolutely lends vast credibility to his perspective. To suggest his experience does not only makes you seem the lone fool arguing that the emperor does indeed have on clothes...
