Roald Dahl’s short story Man from the South has been filmed three times (or four times, depending on how you look at it), in 1960, 1979, and 1985. Steve McQueen, Peter Lorre, and Neile Adams (McQueens’ first wife) starred in the 1960 version; Michael Ontkean, Jose Ferrer, and Pamela Stephenson did so in 1979; and in 1985 it was Steven Bauer, John Huston, and Melanie Griffith. It is this version that is included here.
More recently, in 1995 to be precise, the film Four Rooms saw the light of day. Among others, it contains a segment directed by Quentin Tarantino called The Man from Hollywood, which was inspired by Man from the South.
