Lap of The Nurburgring: 1967
Onboard film of a lap around the Nurburgring, circa 1967.

The chase car is following Hubert Hahne in his Lola-BMW Formula One.

Though trimmed hedges and chasms of death have since been replaced by collision barriers and sand pits, many of the same corners are still in use today.

Those tires look like bicycle tires compared to the monsters they use these days. And such a simple suspension system. Top speed was about half what it is today, and lap times were much slower, then. But that being said, you're right that these were real men.
