Re: Partying with Baby Jesus
The Roman term for the solstice festival was Dies Natalis Solis Invicti: Birth Of The Invincible Sun.
Dies Natalis Solis Invicti was a multiday festival that ended on January 5, now celebrated in Spain and many Latin American countries as the Day Of The Three Magi, which is when children receive their gifts. The Wise Men trump Santa Claus in these countries, sometimes in much more spectacular fashion:
Dinner parties are commonly organized in large venues, with many different families in attendance. After everybody has eaten, the Wise Men arrive with great fanfare, in the flesh, to hand out NOT gold, frankincense and myrrh, but toys to the screaming children. Quite a community event.
