Anyone know when these aired?

The Mike Cain guy said the war with the New World Order might before the year 2000.

Episode one was first aired in October 1999.

This was episode 7, so I guess November/December 1999.

I love Louis Theroux. He is so incredibly subtle in his irony.

Re: Louis Theroux: Head for the Hills
Yet it's seldomly directed directly at the interviewed person itself. I think a great feat of Theroux is that he presents people from a wide array of (sometimes) quite radical thoughts as likable characters. Well, exept for the half-witted nazis, of course.

Re: Louis Theroux: Head for the Hills
Better to say, I think, that he shows us that often they ARE likable characters, and should be seriously considered more often, and shunned less often, even if we ultimately choose to disagree with some of their beliefs. It's because we have a very tunnel-visioned, profit-driven, mainstream media that a lot of these guys are presented as fringe nuts and not just fellow Americans with different opinions. As for the "half-witted Nazis", they dig their own hole. We still owe them the time of day, even if they blow it by showing how backward they are.

Also, for those of you not from the area, Richard Butler's Aryan compound was closed a few years back when a lawsuit bankrupted them. I believe they were sued for shooting at some non-whites who were near the property. The Southern Poverty Law Center won the case and cleaned out their coffers. I'm sure it's all at Wikipedia.

Re: Louis Theroux: Head for the Hills
I agree.

This guy is amazing. His neutrality and legitimacy (well, apparent legitimacy) is moving. He is so respectful, and the video is not painted in any way to make anyone look stupid or ridiculous. Compared to American documentarist (is that a word?) Michael Moore, who I think is quite funny to watch, Theroux's honesty and respect is far superior morally than Moore's sarcasm.

Louis Theroux is such a relief compared to most North American media.

Re: Louis Theroux: Head for the Hills
I agree with you about Louis vs. Moore. But the weird thing is Louis was on Michael Moore's TV Nation. But yeah I considered him the anti-Moore as far as his documentary style. He just shows things the way they are and lets the audience make up its mind. Michael Moore on the other hand, well I wouldn't buy a used car from him.

Re: Louis Theroux: Head for the Hills
c. 1998, I would have pitied Mike for his madness...

Now, at the eve of 2008, I wonder if it wasn't a grand conspiracy that brought America to where it is, today.

Re: Louis Theroux: Head for the Hills
I have to say. Overall I feel that all of the people interviewed in this show all have very legitimate reasons for living the way they live. Some people love to be out in the middle of nowhere and live simple lives. the reasons they give for moving there may be up for debate but none of them are looking for a fight but wont run away from one if it comes to them. Part of patriotism is to be brave enough to speak out against what you feel is wrong and to accept the consequences that come from that. Everyone except the nazi's seem like alot of people I know and Im sure they will probably live out the rest of their days in peace god willing.

now having said that I must say I strongly disagree with anyone associated with the nazi party. The nazi party in america is comprised of people who are scared to death of things that arent part of the lifestyle they grew up in. And the reasons they give for why they have the beliefs they have are never enough to justify such hatred.

overall this documentary really shows more of what is right in America than what is wrong with it. Bravo Louis.

this is why I come to milk and cookies. Stuff I would never look for but really enjoy once watching. It's like me reading about sports in the New Yorker. I hate sports but get sucked in by the great writing. Analogy out.
