Pat Condell: Pimping for Jesus
It's a Republican thing.

Re: Pimping for Jesus
As much as I like to hear Mr Condell's opinions I do get the impression he likes the sound of his own voice sometimes. I'm a deist, which means I do believe in 'a' god, but I'm not scared of discussion or being proved wrong about my ideas.

And you'll never get a JW president.

"And you'll never get a JW president."

Agnostic here -

Just a follow up: I did study with the JW's for a couple years and wisely retreated, and you are correct a JW will never be a President as they are supposed to be "no part of the system of things IE: Politics, holidays, and "Worldly Ideals, et cetera.

As to the video: I like what Pat had to say, but the way he said it has a snide intonation to it. We'll, that's the British for ya.

Re: Pat Condell: Pimping for Jesus
I love how this man can piss off both religious nutjobs and apologetic atheists. How he has nothing but scornful contempt for organized religion. That he never tires of ranting on and on about the stupidity he sees in society.

Simply awesome !

I respect someone who isn't afraid to be an asshole; so long as, they are fair and honest about it. Pat may be self approving and extremely opinionated... but this is why people tune in to see his rants. Controversy is exciting. be glad people like this are out there, giving us a reason to talk.

Some atheists don't think it is right to tell those with a faith that we think they are duped. Most faithful think atheists need to be quite. But, what's really important is what I think (or you, the individual). My opinion is that it is everyones responsibility to be frank with one another. Authenticity is what's truly important.

Also, I think it is acceptable to purposely say things to antagonize and insult others (within common sense limits). It's all part of being genuine, being transparent. Besides, words cannot hurt, unless if you let them. I know I can take it when someone says they don't agree with me.

So... rant on Pat, rant on !

I'm a firm, hard-core atheist, and yet I think Pat Condell is an annoying, self-important blowhard. I fucking hate his self-satisfied little grin.

What a view you must have from your lofty perch, able to cast your eyes down upon us down drodden folk and cast aspersions upon everything that we do and/or believe in. Tell, me Pat, do you believe in anything, or are just jaded, lonely old man with nothing else better to do with his time. Idiot.

Say what you will about pat, but he is more american then most i know, which isnt too bad since he is british. he may say things i dont beleive in, like all us americans are dumb-ass christ-nuts(most of us are). however he speaks freely and doesn't seem to take to others programing. so say what you will about pat, cause it's free speach, we wont have it much longer the PC commie liberals to the left and the jack booted christ-nuts to the right are taken that away. Rage rage agaisnt the dieing of our rights.

Re: Pat Condell: Pimping for Jesus
I found something Pat said interesting.

He was on about how a theist from the bible belt sent him an email saying he couldn't come out as an atheist else the family business would suffer.

This reminded me of the John Stossel story about the New York atheists who moved to the bible belt and were consequently turned into the village pariahs.

Since examples of the "holy" persecuting the godless solely on their religious beliefs are everywhere I wondered if I could find examples of the reverse.

In other words, do we see as a whole that theists are more tolerant, or the atheists?

Don't you listen to right-wing radio? Christians are routinely, uniformly, and relentlessly persecuted in this country by the great liberal secular left. It's everywhere, all around you! Open your eyes!! Praise Jesus!!

Amen.

Re: Pat Condell: Pimping for Jesus
I think there are assholes in every avenue of life, both religious and atheist. I remember having a college professor who would spend half the class period every day talking about how much he hated Christians, religion, and how he wished he lived in the days when Christians were thrown to the lions. And while that isn't really a big deal, imagine saying something like that except substituting in the Holocaust to a bunch of Jewish students. Finally I just said, "OK we get it you're an Atheist, but this is a damn Geography class!"

Large scale persecution of Christians is rare in America as Christians make up the majority. Communist countries such as China have an official policy of Atheism and severely persecute religious people. Owning a Bible is a criminal offense there and there are many other regulations put in place by the government to quell religious practices.

Pretty much, it depends on the person and I don't know of any sociological studies that compared tolerance amongst various groups. If anyone has access to such data, I'd love to see it. Some people may use their religion or lack thereof as an excuse to feel self-important, but such people would find a way to persecute others no matter the religious situation. It's kind of like that South Park episode where Cartman went to the future and everyone was an atheist but fighting just like it was a holy war.

The vast majority of people are intolerant of others. Pat Condell and others who rant against religion and talk about how stupid they believe Christians to be are just as intolerant as as your Jerry Falwells who talk about how sinful the atheists are. For most people it depends on who you agree with and the other guy's the asshole. Personally, I'm a Christian and I don't care for militants of any persuasion. I think there's a difference between being an open person and doing things just to irritate other people. I'm all for free speech, but that doesn't mean I have to like everyone who says stuff to piss me off.
