but... I thought we didnt have a choice. I thought we were all supposed to be christian and that if we werent we had no right to vote or be in America.

"At a Chicago press conference during the 1988 U.S. presidential campaign George H. W. Bush, at the time a Republican candidate for the presidency, reportedly stated, "I don't know that atheists should be regarded as citizens, nor should they be regarded as patriotic."

Even more amazing is that under his son's administration (Bush 43), the DOJ has had its affirmative action staff investigate 52 instances of why Federal funds should not go to religious groups yet did not seek a single instance of African-Americans being discriminated against.

Re: JFK: The Separation of Church and State
"But in recent years, the notion of the separation of church and state has been taken by some well beyond its original meaning. They seek to remove from the public domain any acknowledgment of God. Religion is seen as merely a private affair with no place in public life."

--Mitt Romney

When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret.

Re: JFK: The Separation of Church and State
The problem is that some things about following Christ are private, and some are public. It is not all or nothing. What he's saying is "don't do religion for man to praise you... follow Christ to the glory of God." That doesn't mean "don't follow Christ publicly"
