I like this song and I always thought there had to be some symbolism in the video, but was too lazy to try to figure it out. Here's an analysis that I agree with:

I think that analysis is reading far too deeply into the video.
While the original artist doesn't have a monopoly over the meaning of the song or video, The Edge (man, I hate that nickname) said that the inspiration came from "that sense that you were getting bombarded with so much that you actually were finding yourself shutting down and unable to respond because there was so much imagery and information being thrown at you."
However, to negate everything I just said, the cool part about art is that there is no definite way to read into it. This is simply another viewpoint. Interpret as you see fit.
