Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
Rock Band just came out, and this guy has already conquered Metallica's epic "...and Justice For All" on expert drums.

I never understood the hype around those kind of games - you might call me old-fashioned, but: Learn how to play an actual instrument, fag!

Talk to a Drummer.

Rock Bands drum set is a decent equivalent to playing the real drums. Not to mention great music, and the time spent with friends.

You do have friends right?

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
I'm playing percussion instruments myself and I think all those Rockstar-Games are piss-poor excuses for actually learning something musically. The only game I consider fun at parties in that style is actually Singstar, where you can listen to your friends wailing away (thanks for your concern, I actually have some).

Looks like I stirred something up here ...I'll leave you to your petty little games - but I won't buy your CD.

You can send me 25$ and I'll send you the first CD that I find in my room.

Deal?

"Learn to play an actual instrument fag..."

It's pretty obvious to me that this guy is a drummer, and not just some kid who stayed home from school to play the game. I haven't seen or played the game, but judging from the setup, this pretty damn close to a drum set.

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
yeah its pretty close just minus the the crash and hi-hat pedal.

i wonder if the bass pedal allows you to do duplet/triplet beats i.e. heel-toe =/

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
Pretty obvious to me too. In fact, based on what I'm hearing and what I'm seeing, I bet he knew the song and could play along with the CD on a real drum set already long before the game came out. It was probably just a matter of transposing it to the Rock Band drum set and learning specifically how the patterns translated since it's obvious that there isn't a double petal, and the high hat is in the wrong place.

Perhaps you misinterpret the intentions of a video game. Do you play Counter Strike in the hopes of learning to kill people? TheSims in the hope of learning to live a productive life? No. I haven't played Rock Band, but I thoroughly enjoy Guitar Hero, Wii Tennis, etc. Not because I have any aspirations of learning to play a guitar, or tennis, but because I enjoy playing video games with my friends. No one picks up Guitar Hero and thinks "Sweet, I'm finally going to learn to play the guitar." The two events are completely and totally mutually exclusive. Although I have noticed actual guitar players have the finger dexterity to kick my ass in Guitar Hero.

I may just be imagining this, but does he already have tape holding together his drums?

The game's barely been out a month.

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
It looks like a pretty damn flimsy set up. The game looks hella fun since I have plenty friends I already hang out with and we have to take turns on guitar hero. The cost through, is not somethin I wanna shell out if it isn't gonna stand the test of time (and drunken abuse :P )

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
Don't drummers mark some of their drums with tape as a reminder of which is which during the heat of "Rocking Out"?

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
The tape usually isn't a visual indicator, as muscle memory takes care of what drum is where. That's why drummers take so long to set up their kit just the way they like it. The tape is usually to dampen the sound of the drum head in some way to get a dryer sound depending on what the drummer is going for. Tape on the head of a drum mutes the vibrating membrane so it doesn't ring as long. It can be done with cymbals too, although not quite as often, and for looks you can put the tape on the underside of the cymbal - not as easy to do with a drum head.

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
I don't own the game myself, but I've heard some complaints about the instruments. One is that the drums are not as responsive as some would like. Apparently, one way to make them more responsive is to put tape around the drum heads.

Re: Rock Band: ...And Rock Band for All
My friends and I have already dolled out plenty of drunken abuse upon the gear from this game. Trust me, it stands. The only thing that was a problem was the guitar, which had an issue with the down strum, but they were cool about replacing it.

This game is an instant party. My suggestion is, chip in with a group, because the only good (read: totally sweet) way to play this is with friends
