Xenu TV: Fourth of July Fun
An intrepid but reckless cameraman walks right into a wall of fanatic Scientology followers, who, as usual, can rely on the local police for generous aid.
The scene is a 'public' event on a street renamed 'L. Ron Hubbard Way' by the city of Los Angeles.

Wow. I don't know anything about the video cameraman or, quite frankly, anything about Scientology outside of South Park, but three Scientologists are freaking me out. Based on these particular wackjobs, I'm stayin' away from L. Ron.
Between the tall guy getting in the cameraman's face shouting, "WE ARE ALL ABOUT FREEDOM" (uh, yeh, right) or their Twilight Zone-like escorting/following of the cameraman down a public street or their blanket statements that "the only people who attack Scientology have something to hide," these three zealots make me think Scientologists are insane and, ironically, clearly have much to hide themselves.
Personally, I don't care what people believe. Do it. But it always seems cult-like when a "religion" is very wealthy, highly insulated, and threatening towards anyone who raises questions...

I used to live very close to Clearwater, FL, where their 'spiritual HQ' is. Kind of made the town look like a naval base town with all of their missionaries on the streets.
My take from all I've read about them is that they're a tax dodge more than a religion. And their higher echelon tend to spout some really kooky beliefs. But that's just MHO. Maybe I've been wrong for the past 40 years as an atheist and they're right. Does it really matter?

Actually south park was extremly accurate in the telling of scientology. only two things wrong. One there is no return of L Ron Hubbard and they don't tell the entire story to ealry initiates. It's like your not allowed to read the bible untill your a deacon. Other than that it was 100% true. C-17s and volcanos and all.

And it's more than a tax dodge. If someone says something against scientology it is the duty of the scientologists to shut these people up by any means necessary part of their code. Also look up "SEA ORG" some more scary shit.

Just look up Scientology on youtube and you'll see what it's all about.

Re: Xenu TV: Fourth of July Fun
You know, that last paragraph makes a very good point... as I've read more and more of this stuff since I first saw the clip yesterday, this does seem to smack of the medieval-era Catholic Church. They certainly haven't been shy about recruiting among Hollywood's power elite, giving them a great deal of income. The less well-known or wealthy members, it seems, are more likely to be "reeducated" for their transgressions. After all, if Tom Cruise or John Travolta were to be sent to one of their camps and left there with no contact with the outside world, this would attract more negative press and possibly lose the cult a major source of income. From what I read, it even seems that they have a built-in system similar to the Papal Indulgences of the Catholic Church, more than likely their remedy for the wealthy or well-known members who breach their "ethics." Makes me wonder how much they got out of Isaac Hayes when he did the voice of Chef for the Scientology story arc.
As far as I can tell, the only thing that will cripple the cult is a well-known member leaving and becoming an outspoken antagonist to the CoS. Lesser escapees seem to be quashed when dealing with media outlets outside of the internet.
In reading this material, my greatest fear is that eventually there will be an event that makes "Heaven's Gate" or Jonestown look like minor blips on the radar screen by comparison. There is potential here for something truly horrific.

Are they passing out crack to their parishoners? Seriously, it's hard to explain this kind of behavior or mindset without something involved that accounts for REALLY compromised thinking.
Hell, I'm a Wiccan high priest and smoke pot... I'm not about to hold myself up as a huge moral example. But if I got to the point that those guys in that video have reached, I would hope someone would kill me before I were to get any worse!!!
Sadly, this leads me to lose respect for Tom Cruise... and gain respect for Nicole Kidman for walking away from the man. For that matter, while I've been willing to look at any lady for marriage without regard for her religious beliefs, this guaranteed I will "just say no" to a Scientologist.

There's a reason why the UK government wont recognise scientology as a Religion.
