Re: David Lynch on Consciousness
Transcendental Meditation in a Nutshell:
Manually directing the entirety of your brain into activity at once.
Cracking the Nutshell a Little:
This enforced activity 'across the board' stimulates the recovery/recuperation of less-used regions, as well as establishing new connections throughout the mind. Conscious feelings while within this mental state may possibly be a mirrored summary of the event; you experience a little bit of everything you ever have, all at once. Unity is achieved across all of the remnants of experiences within your grey matter, and so it is complemented by your sensory input.
This is the 'bare bones' basics which I got out of this lovely 109 minute movie/clip. I've not experienced meditation before, and definitely not this form of it. Going from my 'meh' memory, at least. *chuckle*

Re: David Lynch: Consciousness, Creativity and the Brain
I'm sorry, but this just strikes me as a 2-hour meditation infomercial.
"Complete happiness, all the answers you could ever need and world peace is only 2500 dollars away."
How is this different from pro-life batshit insane christian ministers or scientology nutjobs? No thank you, Mr Lynch and Mr Bogus Doctor.
1/5.

Agreed. This bothers me like a for-profit church, and it's reminiscent of the "Mind control made easy: Or how to become a cult leader" video headlined here some time back. We're a world peace organization. You do want to be happy, don't you?
Which is a shame, because I do believe in meditation being beneficial, when it's not in a buy-this-package format from jerk-offs like these. Remember, personal development is a lifelong quest, not something you just buy, and there exist places you can go for assistance without being asked for a cover charge.
The doctor bothered me too. Holy crap, you mean brain waves change when you close your eyes and think about something different? That's too much like those things Scientologists have with the two probes.
I will rescind every harsh word when they offer their services at no charge, making money to expand by donations from those who have bettered their lives. Until then, they are just taking advantage of vulnerable people who are searching for something, and exploiting old belief systems for credence.

Re: David Lynch: Consciousness, Creativity and the Brain
never did i know DL (perhaps my favorite film noire director of all time) was such a spiritualist of enlightenment.
as for TM, Mr Lynch is absolutely correct about this form of meditation doing wonders. however, the $2500 is a complete rip off -- dont buy it. this is the information age, and all the mantras and instruction can be found on the internet (or so i'm told).
funny thing: although, TM is really supposed to wake you up, i use it to go to sleep. if youve had insomnia, this is the cure. no more need for sleeping drugs; it works excellent. and its so easy.

Re: David Lynch: Consciousness, Creativity and the Brain
Meditation is probably wonderful, but I hate both these speakers. Even if it wasn't their goal, it did sound like they were selling something the whole time. Looking up TM online is depressing too, it's all people trying to make a buck :(. Guess we have to work toward enlightenment through our own self discovery...I want my quick fix :P.
