Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
Mark 16:17-18 tells us that drinking poison will do no harm to those who believe.
Edward Current celebrates this amazing gift from our loving Father by drinking a bottle of cyanide.

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
I wish I can make a list of 100 reasons why I hate this flood of anti-christian demagogues, from those stupid british idiots to this, etc.
(1) They are preaching to the choir, and a massive, ignorant one at that
(2) They don't realize, as South Park does, that the mass of so-called Christians are insincere
(3) An unexamined belief is no belief at all; by this criterion, there are very few actual 'religious' people in the world
(4) They take a very superficial 'opposition' and try to transform it into their life work of good against evil
(5) They derive meaning from participation in an illusory struggle between two components of a childish opposition, in the very same way as many Christians
(6) They come from the most well-off classes of society
(7) By siding with the obvious and common sense, they throw their lots with the most conservative elements of society -- preicsely what is obvious is always what is the most repressive.
(8) In attacking another -- in fact, mostly illusory -- faction of a polemic they hold no position of their own. They do not know how to reflect.
(9) Theirs is a socialist elitism and a unthought liberal condescension
(10) They don't read -- they make no reference to the centuries of earlier thinking on and against religion
(11) They cannot distinguish between statement and intention
(12) They divert attention away from the real war being waged over truth
(13) They speak from the higher ground, they lack the humility required for self-overcoming
(14) They are incredibly rude -- by their they make the overconfident liberal idiots even more overconfident
(15) They reek of provincialism, their notion of politics is on the scale of PTA meetings -- no attempt is made to conceive of the system of truth itself
(16) They think that truth is something that can be found on the street and gives herself out to anyone who passes by, like a whore
... hmm, I'm mostly reminded of a town square in the middle ages, where the peasants come out to heckle and throw rotting fruit at one of their own... it's such a nasty, smelly business. I'm not defending Christians, but I can't stand the sight of peasants putting on judge's robes.

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
Richard Dawkins eluded towards your type of people in one of his lectures. i.e. People who start off by saying "im not a christian, but..." or "im not defending christians, but..."
Which in translation means "I am actually a christian, but my argument holds much less credence if i tell you that."
Anyway, your entire post smacks of typical christian pomposity. You make no attempt to confront the criticisms made in the video and simply try and smear those who point out the obvious inaccuracies and contradictions in your holy bible (soon to be renamed "Science Fiction for Dummies).
Do us all a favour and "go to heaven" already!
Amen.

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
STFU gypo, you obviously didn't understand the intent of q335r49's post. I'm amazed at the reactionary idiots who latch on to a single word or phrase without trying to understand the context with which it's used in. Reread his post and see if you can figure out what he's really saying. Oh, and it's alluded, not eluded, dumbass.

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
Just so you know, in three sentences you did both of the following: 1) You criticized those who would latch on to a single word without trying to understand the context in which it's used, and 2) You latched on to a single word in gypo's post, without any reference to its context.
You also made two grammatical or typographical errors (It should read "without trying to understand the context IN which it's used," not "without trying to understand the context WITH which it's used IN."). It's a good thing that nobody here is anal enough to point that kind of meaningless mistake, right?

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
you know, i agree with much of what you said, however the other side of this is..... for centruies men have been using the guise of religion to arbitrarily create rules, regulations, and laws. i can understand why a few people who actually require logic and reason behind action, would be a bit resentful of any ideology used to create a set of standards, that lacked both of these, and in fact is not verifiable by any scientific means. far as i can tell we have some very serious issues we should be focusing on instead of quibbling over who is right about somethign that may or may not actually exist.ask me about god in 100 years when we have no more clean water....

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
Dude, shut up. This video isn't a critical assessment of Christianity. It's meant to be humorous. M&C already is host to far too many arguments over the validity of Christianity/Evolution/ID/Faith in general/Whether or not Robot Chicken sucks, and while I'm usually the first to throw gas on the fire, you're just blatantly trolling. Your post barely makes sense, asserts conclusions without arguments or evidence, isn't informational at all and serves no purpose other than to incite a flame war. Reading your post makes me feel like somebody just vomited on me after eating a few meals at McDonalds.

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
Good post q335r49.
I'm also sick of knee-jerk anti-religionists who are just tiresome, repetitive and unthinking as the people they are attacking.
Just because you don't practice a religion doesn't mean you have something original or interesting to say on the subject.

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
As a rabid atheist, I can admit sometimes the atheist posts here are kinda lame. But something about this Edward Current guy cracks me up. I don't know what it is, but I'm always laughing.

Re: Jesus Protects Us from Being Poisoned
I'm with you. I find the guy to be pretty funny and it's nice to have people who are atheists/agnostics/freethinkers not be afraid of hiding it. I think it's ridiculous that we shouldn't be allowed to criticize or otherwise make fun of the beliefs of those around us. Hell, the atheists have been marginalized by society for years, now it's time for the believers of the world to put up or shut up :-)

God does protect you from poison. Just ask the followers of Jim Jones. Oh! nevermind.
