One of the things that used to bust me up watching was that none of them could ever keep a straight face. American Masters recently had an episode on Carol Burnett and all the other cast members said their goal was to make Carol - who was a total professional - break character and laugh. They almost always ended up laughing themselves while she ad libbed to match the altered scene!
