Guiness Ad - Tipping Point
Most expensive ever (£10m!) Guinness advert features large-scale domino game.

Directed by Nicolai Fuglsig of Sony Bravia 'Balls' fame, it is a celebration of community.

The advert was shot on location in a remote side village called Iruya, in the Salta region of northern Argentina, with a population of around 1,000 people.

Toppling items included: 6,000 dominoes, 10,000 books, 400 tyres, 75 mirrors, 50 fridges, 45 wardrobes and 6 cars.

Well you figure - all those extras, all those cars, all that other crap, the moving-parts guiness sculpture at the end, paying to shut down that village for the day, engineering the concept into a working reality . . . Yeah, I'll believe that could cost 10 mil.

I'd be interested to learn where that number came from. Often the most expensive part of advertising is buying the media, and sometimes an agency will use that number as part of their publicity. So, if this was 10 mil for the production costs alone, thats certainly noteworthy. If this was all done in one continuous take it would be really something and I could see where the money went. However, the multiple cuts make this price tag difficult to believe.

Re: Guiness Ad - Tipping Point
I'm sure the director took home a couple mil.. not to meniton that they probably paid the extras and the town for use of thier image..

I"m sure everyone was gouging as best as they could, pricewise. I know I would...

Not to mention flying gear and all that random stuff to the remote location. That's not cheap.

Plus cost of materials.

Re: Guiness Ad - Tipping Point
I've had a long love affair with Guinness ads--from "My goodness! My Guinness!" all the way to the new one with little people playing out the cascade in a freshly poured pint--and I've got to say that this is probably the least impressive I've seen. A ten million quid Guinness ad should make me leave my girlfriend for a pint of St. Jame's Gate.

I thought so too. The surfing guiness ad was way better, and it's hardly the best one.
