Mukasey on Waterboarding: "It is Unresolved" >>
(The crime of torture) wouldn't just mean impeachment, would it? That crime would mean George W. Bush is going to prison.
Thus Michael Mukasey, on the eve of the vote that will make him the high priest of the law of this land, cannot and must not answer a question, nor even hint that he has thought about a question, which merely concerns the theoretical definition of waterboarding as torture.

I generally don't rate Olbermann's Special Comments here all that highly because it's often seen as being ultra-left.
But hey, torture is for the weak and the lazy and those who pay no attention to the law of this land.

I think this is his best comment to date. It is very powerful.

Totally. I feel the same way about Olbermann's motivation, but this one was just right on the dot.

Congradulations Olbermann, we thank you for saying something that was blatantly obvious. Olbermann wouldn't be so popular if Bush wasn't making it so easy for him.

What may be blatantly obvious to you is not so to the rest of the news media. NO ONE else is saying these things. It's nice to be able to turn on the news and actually here a bit of unvarnished truth for a change :-)

I can't understand what people's ideas of what constitutes someone being "ultra left" these days. Is it "facts" and "reality"? I've never Olbermann say anything misleading or untrue. Certainly he's impassioned, but at what point in time did Americans stop being impassioned about torture, warrentless wiretapping, illegal war, and NOT CATCHING OSAMA! At least it seems people are waking up to the fact that maybe it's America that needs to change it's course. Get back to being "the shining city upon the hill" and not another county that goes the path of the totalitarian regime.

An excellent comment. Honesty is still the best policy.
Thomas Jefferson said, "Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." We're currently living in a country where those who dissent when they believe our laws are being broken are summarily being fired, and laws are being altered or ignored to keep those in power in place. That is simply not a democracy. How can we say we're "bringing democracy" to the rest of the world when our current leaders are snatching it away from us? It's a farce that has ruined our standing in world politics.
Just one more thing for those who keep bringing it up: Haven't you yet figured out that "left v. right" is just "home v. away" applied to politics? Most politicians represent themselves as more strongly leaning than they actually are in order to garner votes from specific "teams" - all you're doing by aligning yourself to the ideology is ignoring what they actually do once they're in office. Go read their voting records. It's much more productive than even mentioning who's too left in the news media.
