Re: Atheists Nightmare Debunked. Ray Comfort/Kirk Cameron
How do the religious come up with stuff and honestly believe it? It still puzzles me to this day.

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
The banana is actually a berry (believe it or not). The common "berries" i.e. strawberries, raspberries etc. are seeds which are also bite sized and easy to digest, but i'm not a botanist and can only speculate that they also evolved into these handy bite sized healthy snack. Here's a totally random fact about banana trees and that is that they "walk", very slowly of course. Gods witch craft at work there.

And another thing -that pisses me off- is that some of these christians are totally against harry potter and all the witch craft and wizardry, but didn't god use some sort of "magic" to create us or was it pure science ? Explain that one to me.

Heh, I think their beef is that God is the only one -allowed- to use magic in the universe. Apparently, we can stay at his house, but we're not allowed to play with his toys. :p

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
Ya, that's absolutly their deal. God only "lends" his power to men with "great faith" in him, and let them do great things with his "help". Anyone NOT using god's power, is automatically harnessing the powers of the devil, and that's evil and they must be burned, then drowned, then burried for 3 weeks in warm peat, and then finally fed to 13 hungry geese. Or something like that... the "repentance" process always seems to get a bit fuzzy from case to case. :P

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
This man is an idiot.

Why....why do some religious people feel the need to make such stupid arguments? Jesus Christ. There is NO EVIDENCE to prove the existence of any god. Sure, one of the faiths out there could be right (Scientology;) but no one knows for certain...yet. So in the meantime, I suggest these religions morons just stfu until they have an actual point to make.

(Something tells me that we'd be waiting a long time for that to happen)

Best part is at -1:03 where he's holding it like a falice(spelling) and said god made it where it won't squirt in your face.

I'll say! That God person sure is a prankster, creating all these Christian findie preachers as oral bottoms. (With mustaches.) The ergonomic banana is not the only thing curved toward this guy's face for ease of entry and just the right shape.

"Seriously, Kirk, the 'hole' of creation testifies to the genius god's creative brain." That's why they bring kitchen chairs out to a meadow. Or a photographic backdrop into their sound studio. That god, what a prankster.

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
Hahaha I'm Catholic, and I was never taught that a banana meant there was a God.

Purely rational thinking leads a person to believe that there is no God(s).

But, as Samuel Jackson once said, "The evidence of absence is not the absence of evidence." I believe there is a God, but I couldn't tell you how to find Him that way you want to see Him.

Faith may just be an irrational conjuration of the mind to cope with the finite nature of human life; but, if that's what gets you through the day, well, why the hell not? :)

ah, a great quote (but misquoted)

"The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence."

Why the hell not? Because you avoid dealing with your problems by getting on your knees.

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
That doesn't mean the problems don't actually get solved.

I can understand that some people would use religion as a crutch, much like alot of people would use other things as crutches to support themselves through life.

Personally, having faith is an exercise in humility. I'm not too proud to say that I can stand on my own when I really can't. If you feel you don't need religion, that's great. =)

And to anyone who sees what I say as "not being a true Christian" or w/e because I don't try to shove it down other people's throats, I say you're better off leading by example than expecting someone to change by bitching them out believing God is on your side. I don't think that's what Jesus did.

Did this really need to be debunked? Interesting facts, but it takes more then bananas to convince me.

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
I really don't understand why the fundies have such a bug up their butt about evolution.

I guess it's because they take the bible literally, but (having read and studied the bible several times over) I don't understand that either. It's quite obviously a collection of separate books, and the Old Testament in particular is a history of the Hebrew people, with all the chest-beating exaggerations of most ancient histories.

(And by the way, The Bible, esp. the KJV is a beautiful work of literature as a whole, has had enormous influence over the cultures of the world, has offered spiritual comfort to many generations of believers and non-believers, and is entirely worth reading -- so don't get me wrong here. I'm not a hater of the Bible or religion in general.)

But, if you're going to be so literal about the Bible, then why are you still eating shellfish and pork?

I feel the same way about their beef with Halloween -- they act as if witchcraft is some kind of credible threat in the real world.

In short, the fundies of all stripes have made moderate, intelligent, ordinary believers of various religions seem stupid, which is far from the truth. Congrats, guys.

Selective breeding over 8000 years. Humans don't evolve that fast, and (most) humans are not selectively bred en masse.

Just like dogs or cattle were domesticated, I assume.

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
Dogs are thought to be among the very oldest of domesticated animals, pre-dating agriculture or animal husbandry.

They gathered by the fires of humans to get scraps of food. So, in a way, they domesticated themselves.

Re: The Atheist's Nightmare: Bananas, Debunked
Some entertaining nonsense (g'wan, ignore it):

Of all the animals that eat bananas, we're the only ones that use "God's pull-tab" (WTF!?!?) All the others open the bananas the right way round while they're still on the plant (a "ripe" banana is actually still green, we eat them overripe).

As far as the berries conflict goes - yep, the "many small seeded, fleshy fruited" (definition of a berry) banana is in fact a berry. Tomatoes are also berries. Most berries have been heavily cultivated to produce the tasty treats we now devour, but all were designed (intelligently! through evolution) to get animals to consume their many small seeds and then spread 'em around with some fertilizer.

Sorry Ray, I sleep peacefully.

For the love of Pete, could someone shut these creationist imbeciles up and stop making the rest of us religious folk look like ignorant kooks.

That ergonomic banana is just the right shape for someplace else, too. And that's not the only thing that fits places.

If you see God, tell him thanks for the cube-shaped Japanese melons, eh? Oh, and the hot chicks in halter tops that come out every summer.
