I really hate censorship of this kind. Minstrel shows were one of the most important American art forms. They were immensely influential in the development of Jazz and Blues. While black-face may be unacceptable in most contemporary performances, it's tragic that it can't even be used in an appropriate context. As for minstrel shows themselves, I'm lucky to have a few 78 vinyl recordings that my grandfather passed along. Thank goodness, because a mighty taboo seems to exist against modern-day recordings of this vitally important and historical art form.
