Oh Pat, I believe you have lost your way.
First you were a refreshing semi-intellectual insight into dangerous subject areas. Now you just sound like an angry atheist.
I too feel that organised religion restricts personal development. It has also done a significant amount of harm in the world. Now it just seems your painting them all with the same brush. There are perfectly decent religious people who have probably become better persons because of it. They are just not as noticeable as the asses who preach the regurgitated, selected bull sh*t.
In other words, religion is like football fans. Most of them enjoy it and feel satisfied by following it. Others take it too seriously, start arguments and get into riots.
Right I’ve finished my own little rant, god love free speech!

Re: Pat Condell: What's good about religion?
Pat's argument on saying that religion has turned a desert out of the soul is completed off track. I honestly can't stand any of Pat's little videos because of the fact that I can't argue back at him. Religion offers hope, how ever false it may be, and evolution offers despair. Science, in general, is mainly correct in the physical world, but completely neglects anything not physically observable. (ie God, the mind, love...etc.)

If you can't stand his videos, why do you keep watching them? And you think evolution offers despair? I would have thought that change, opportunity, and variety would be where hope lies, not despair. Thirdly, science doesn't 'neglect' any area, it's simply more applicable to some areas than others (and just because it doesn't cover all areas equally doesn't justify filingl in the gaps with fluff someone made up thousands of years ago).

Science and Philosophy are intermingled. You cannot have one without the other.

Re: Pat Condell: What's good about religion?
Are you saying that science explains nothing about the mind and emotions? Because I was under the impression that Neurology, Psychology, and Psychiatry existed, which are sciences of the mind, behavior, emotions (including love), etc. However, I suppose if you feel it's logical to believe in things which you can't see, it's just as logical along the same lines to believe that these sciences, which we have proof of, don't exist.
