Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
I had to see this in about fifteen parts because of all the running around I did today. But it was well worth it. There is a lot to be concerned about. And though we've experienced diminished freedoms over the past several years, everyone please keep in mind that it's probably still better to be in the US than in many other lands.

Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
there is indeed similarities between this administration and early nazi Germany. I knew about greg palast for a while and Americans dont know the story of how corrupt the 2000 elections were. he aired on the bbc but not in America because clear channel or rupert murdach or just money in general prevented him from doing so. If this administration would sink to cheating america out of a presidency, twice, and nothing stopped them, what is going to stop them from running a dictatorship?

Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
It seems like she takes a rather radical jump from step 9 to step 10, but then again I haven't read the book or done her research. I was totally with her until this point and afterwards in terms of what intent we can have to make things better. I wish she had said more than just "stand up for our rights" at the end. That's a drumbeat in and of itself, but I think the average American (including myself) doesn't really know what that means. If affiliating yourself with the kinds of groups that will get you "on the list" or whatever is the answer then that's a scary prospect for most people since it's only natural to protect yourself. Any suggestions?

Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
Wow. This makes me really scared - so much that I want to go buy a couple of rifles and stockpile ammunition. I really hope it doesn't come it, but I would rather die a free man than cower in fear of a dictator.

Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
You people are fucking idiots. The U.S. has been doing the same shit for the last 100 years and we're still not 1940 Germany yet. You think we didn't torture people in the 1960's? You think they weren't doing illegal wire taps in the 1970's? Wake up dipshit's and quit acting like Bush thought all this shit up and all the democrates just can't stop him because.... wait, why can't they stop him? Because they're just as fucked up.

Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
Clinton never kept people indefinitely in an offshore prison where through some loophole the prisoners have no due processes. In my lifetime I have never seen the government act this badly. Creating homeland security full of loopholes to allow bush to bypass the checks and balances. creating fictitious reasons to go to war and let the war mongrels suck off the blood of the innocent. black water IS freaking scary.

Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
Yeah, your right Clinton did do shit. He just sat there and waited. Good plan. And don't even give me that "black water is scary" b.s. They're suppose to be. Would you prefer guys in Teletubby costumes and magical wands protect contractors working there from getting shot?

Re: Naomi Wolf: The End Of America
Very interesting, but also somewhat alarmist. Why? I believe that even though our government bears some resemblance to past foreign dictatorships, it doesnt necessarily mean that our leaders have the same intentions as they did. This is largely due to the debate over how we can keep our country safe. A huuuuuuuuuuge issue since 9/11. Some people (namely republicans, but not exclusively) believe we should investigate people who dissent in order to avoid atrocities like 9/11. Now I don't necessarily agree with all of the things this administrations done, but the flip side to opression is safety. Can we keep ourselves safe while at the same time preserve our rights? Some think yes and some think no. I think its possibe if its done correctly. This administration did a horrible job of this and the way we fix that is by voting for a NEW president with good ideas, not just rhetorical ideas. Know your candidates before you cast your vote.
