McKellan can be such a load mouth with his opinion. He loves to speak his mind. This is why I respect him.
It's cool to see a gay man who is so popular and so disinterested in sidetracking controversial comments: religion, politics and his being gay.
If I was was gay, I'd want more folks like him out there in Hollywood. He's a kickass talent, interesting and says what he likes. Not a boring guy at all.

who cares if hes gay. is someone a homophobe? here? the guy is an extremely talented actor, but ofcourse because hes gay that all gets overlooked right?

Who care what someones sexual preference is - exactly. It makes no difference.
I point out that he is gay because, as a straight dude who knows few gay people, I still have a hard time not identifying him as such. Sorry, but men who like men make me a nervous still to some degree (I can go to gay bars, but the girlfriend HAS to join me). I think many straight men this kind of homophobia residue from when we were young and influenced by what the lesser intellects around us would say about gays. So, i dont think it is bad thing to be gay...just that its different and it takes conscious effort to accept. Silly...but that is the way it is. I could elaborate more but I trust my point was made.
Anyway, the guy does smoke herb and speaks his mind without pause for consideration of what the more conservative minded folks will think. For these reasons alone, he is cool as shite. His being a loudmouth is plus. Its a nice combo with his classically trained speaking voice.

It doesn't make you an awful man just because you're uncomfortable around gays or even that you freely admit it. It's the ones who come up with some idiocy to support their fears (be the fears rational or not).
I recall hearing soldiers speaking out against gays in the military with the following rationale: "I don't want some guy looking at me in the showers." Give me a break, don't flatter yourself pal. What makes boobs like that think that they're worth looking at?
