Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
as a christian, i have to agree with the man for once. a lot of folks who say they're christian forget the most important teaching of Jesus; when asked what the most important comandment was Jesus responded that it was the first two comandments, "Love God above everything else. Love your neighbor as yourself". Love. Jesus preached love. Forgiveness. Self-sacrafice for the benefit of those around you. Jesus hung out with the lowest class of citizens of His day. And a lot of folks today seem to forget all that...and accuse people of being sinners and going to hell...without any form of compassion. And that's sad.

However, I disagree with Pat's claim that Jesus should have been more famous than Elvis back in his day. Mostly because of the lack of easy communication we're so used to. No cameras, no newspapers, most common people couldn't even read or write. Everything was word of mouth. That's how people lived. And because of that, because that was the norm for society, I believe they did a pretty good job of passing down information and history via word of mouth. And don't think that's a point of discredit. Elvis was famous because of radio, tv and newspapers...able to reach millions for years and years. Jesus preached anywhere from 1-3 years, without the aid of any of those media.

And, to be as 'famous' as He is. 2000 years later. Still a topic of controversey. I'd say that's more impressive than being as famous as Elvis while He (Jesus) was alive.

I think this may be one of Pat's most tame messages yet.

Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
Great to hear a Christian affirm what is--at least in this "wandering soul's" opinion--the very essence of Jesus' message; Love. I don't believe Jesus Bin Joseph Ma Nazareth is my savior, but I do admire his message of love. I've read the Bible, and even a couple of the 'lost gospels,' and that very passage you refer to seems to be the best way to boil down his message to us. Any interpretation of the bible--even of a single passage from the bible--that does not return to the idea of love is a sad perversion of a great gift. And if Jesus, either as a man's spirit or as God Himself, can see even a shred of the hate and misery people have twisted from his message, I can only imagine him shaking his head.

as a christian, I have to agree with pat. it seems that everything hes been saying makes sense. It seems like the story of jesus is pretty crazy. elvis > jesus. END. and much better looking.

Oh, I dunno about that, Meat.

Have you seen Elvis? I mean recently. Too young to die, too fat to live. But Jesus, on the other hand... Check out some of those devotional artworks and erotic crucifixes. Dude is HOT!

Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
Even with video and audio documentation

there have been claims-multiple claims-that Elvis is still alive-and there have been reports of miraculous cures from people visiting Graceland.

now think about the accuracy of word of mouth transmission-

religious history as the party game "telephone".

Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
I still think people follow this guy too much. The idea behind atheism is to think for yourself. Not let other people tell you what to do.

But I do agree with the overall sense of his topics.

I just don't see any reason to praise him. Thank you for telling me something I already know.

Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
Well now, since when is there an "idea behind atheism?" I'd call you a hypocrite, but then I'd get confused.

Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
What he was trying to say is that atheists, by nature, are independent free-thinkers. If we were otherwise, we would just follow whatever everyone else does and be religious.

Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
What he said is so true. Growing up and not believing in Christianity lets you hear plenty of times about how you are going to Hell etc etc. Why are fanatical Christians so righteous when they can condemn others and yet it says "Thou shalt not judge thine fellow man"? It is a driving force to steer away from people like that and know that fortunately there happen to be Christians that aren't fundamentalist preachers that try to control everything others do instead of just taking care of themselves. If people want to be good people, the focus needs to be on themselves; not everyone else. Anyone who works on becoming a better person knows this.

Re: Pat Condell: Hello Angry Christians
I think atheisim and religion are mutually exclusive. but since we are at the opposite end of the spectrum, and we are playing tug of war, we need an evangelist. pat is serving an important purpose.
