I must agree.. If you want to lknow who is full of BULLSHIT about hypnosis, its this fat jerk. Hypnosis, until very recently was ALL the russians used for anesthesia , even for major operations! It can relieve pain, (see 'hypnobirthing') rid oneself of unreasonable fears, lose weight, stop smoking (but ONLY IF THE CLIENT HAS THE TRUE DESIRE TO DO SO.) To show what an arrrogant, ignorant, self-serving JERK this guy is.. NO self-respecting hypnotist would EVER EVER EVER say "NO PAIN" in that stereotypical way. Further, you won't do anything in hypnosis that you really dont want to do, and cannot be "made" to violate innermost values.

Furthermore, hypnosis has been recognized, especially for pain control by the mediccalcommunity of the united states (AMA) and several US government agencies for many, many decades.

Agreed, Hypnotism is a legit method. Only not in the slimy stageman kind of way.
There are two theories on how it works, split consciousness theory, where the hypnotized does not notice the pain but it is happening. Kind of like nitrous oxide.
The other is social influence theory, where the hypnotized is so wraped up in playing the role of hypnotized that they do whatever they are told. This is why you cannot be hypnotized against your will.

As with any other profession, there are good ones and bad ones. Stage hypnotists are entertainers only, giving the public what it wants, kind of like a certain intolerant, ignorant and politically ludicrous individual featured on this video.

Hypnosis is totally real. The subject needs to be totally open to suggestions. The hypnotist allows them to reach a state of deep relaxation and then starts implanting suggestions. The hypnotist can't force you to do something that you truly don't want to do but he can help you loosen your inhibitions and suggest things to do. A hypnotist came to our grad night and hypnotized several of my friends. The ones that were hypnotized successfully only remembered sleeping and wouldn't believe what they did. Some even returned to the audience thinking it wasn't working and fell asleep again.
