they actualy made the simpsons 3d with out destroing their cartoonish appearance, it looks like your actually controling the characters not a 3d rendering of them.

It's a style known as cell shading. It was used for the Viewtiful Joe games, Zelda: Wind Waker, as well as the otherwise-unnotable XIII. I think Penny Arcade Adventures will use it as well.

Its actually a little more complex than just cell shading. In The Simpsons cartoon, characters change shape when the "cameras" pov changes. When you are watching bart move in the game his dimensions change in the game as well to accurately represent bart as he is in the cartoon. Im not sure if this is actually new. I think square may have used the same technology to recreate disney characters for kingdom hearts. at any rate, its really neat. =)

Nah, I don't think it's rotoscoping. Rotoscoping takes real people and allows you to animate based on the tracing of real life film usually giving it a really awkward feel.

sigh. ok ok. clearly you have a daft understading of computer graphics. its totally high end cell shading. Its futuristic cell shading! so futuristic it would explode your brain if you tried to even give it a second thought.... or an intelligible thought. so dont even think about it. Just accept that its "bleeding eyes" nuts. ok. good.
