Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
When setting up this shot, they realized that it would be cheaper to use real guns than to fabricate props. That's pretty interesting considering the message of the movie.
Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
That would be that guns are cheap and easily accessible to just about anyone who might want one. You can't see it in this clip, but Nic is in a bunker full of thousands of such guns, and they're all real. Many people believe that fully automatic weapons (known as Class 3) are illegal in this country. They are not. Anyone with a "clean" record can acquire a Class 3 permit and legally own and transport such weapons. With a little more effort you can acquire a Class 3 *license* and DEAL such weapons. Same for suppressors. I knew a guy with a suppressed sub-machine gun.

Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
Why would anyone be allowed a Surpressor? THey should just be flat out illegal. Im for regular gun rights but Surpressors seem to be purly offensive.

Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
I know people suppress their rifles if they have a rat problem in their apartment. The rats come out early in the morning and they don't want to wake their neighbors.

Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
And a bullet through the wall won't wake them?
What's the deal with the word "suppressor"? Is that the same as a silencer?

Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
The issue of gun control is, obviously, controversial. The fact remains, though, that our fore-fathers wished the general population to be armed in the event that our government becomes corrupt or obsolete. Should we, the people, decide that we need a new government, we are supposed to be able to *overthrow* our own government. Now...imagine a battle between the obese, placid, mind-washed populace of US and the US military. It might not be easy to subdue us, but the ultimate outcome is almost certainly not in our favor. Drop a few bombs on our power plants, and put machine gun turrets on your neighborhood Wal-Marts. Cancel all TV programing except FOX News and you have yourself a good ol' police state. Guns kill a lot of people in this country, but doctors kill more. And the fact is that we can't really complain about the government walking on the constitution if we are showing the same disregard and ignoring our obligations. Believe it or not, I'm a liberal democrat. I'm probably gonna be black-bagged for this one.

tsackett: They use a rifle chambered in .22 Short Rifle (5.56x10mm). it's sub-sonic and the all lead pellet it fires will deform on impact with most anything.
Suppressor is a more accurate term than silencer in my opinion. There are very few weapons that actually create no noise when fired, for the most part suppressors are just used to deafen the still loud noise of a rifle or to cover the muzzle flash. Most civilian legal suppressors take down the sound by about 30% which is far lower than those used by the Government.
Good post, sheisskopf. It's always nice to know I'm not the only person who is both pro-gun and fairly left of center. The way I see it is that gun control laws (for the most part) assume that everyone is a criminal and treats them thusly. Which I think is completely unfair.

listen, pinko, lets say you're at home enjoying a good ol fascioned murkin dinner with your kin when some evil doers burst into the house. are you going to tell me i dont have the god given right to defend my family while remaining polite to my neighbors?
sitchiation dos: yer in the woods and you come up on a herd of deer and they're stompin on a flag. if you fire a shot from a non supressed weapon they're all gonna start arunnin before justice can be dealt.

Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
So, essentailly what your saying is this "lets say theres an elephant walkin around with american flag underpants and you happen to have a bazooka in your possesion. By the time you fire that round off, yer headed for a heap of trouble!" am I close? lol. Hey, I love guns. and I am a pinko (probably, whatever pinko means), but thats mainly because Im afraid that people like you have guns also. (am I more on the nose there?)

Damnit, there I go replying before I read the whole thread again. Supression was the subject. Who cares. part of the fun is the pow-pow noise right? can we all agree on that? bang bang!

Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
You do realize that the US military IS its population, right? They're not uh.. robots or anything. They live here too.

Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
Doesn't mean too much. Think about the civil war. We'll fight and kill ourselves "for the good of the country." And, I hate to say it, but since WW2 conditioning our soldiers to act without thinking has been one of our most effective strategies. I have no doubt soldiers would follow orders to attack their fellow Americans.
Re: Lord Of War: AK-47
Long live the AK. I've only ever fired a PM Makorov, which is a pretty crappy pistol.
