Re: Daily Show: Rock Me Petraeus
Brilliant ending. Now, will someone in Congress please hold the president's feet to the fire on this "we have no idea what the future will hold unless we withdraw" idiocy?

This show seems to get more brilliant every day. Or maybe it's the actual stories getting more and more ridiculous...

Re: Daily Show: Rock Me Petraeus
Petraeus does have a point while we should have never gone into Iraq, if we were to leave the Iraqi security forces would be absolutly destroyed by sectarian violence. And Iraq as we know it would completly crumble. But on there other hand While i do believe that we are making super duper slow progress in Iraq, it would take an absurd amount of time to finish it.

Re: Daily Show: Rock Me Petraeus
It sucks, but all we can really hope for is to pull out, have things really suck for a while, and then maybe Iraq can right itself.
They said that if we pulled out of Vietnam the communists would take over and things would suck. Well, the commies did take over and things did suck for a long while. But Vietnam is now slowly getting into the world market and Americans are buying shoes made there. BUT, if we had stayed we would probably still be fighting and more people would have died.
It sucks, but it's all we can do.

Re: Daily Show: Rock Me Petraeus
Waait, what?!?!
I knew the stats were high, but let's just put it into all the zeros, not just a little puny letter "b" to express $2billion as 2b, but instead it looks like this: $2,000,000,000... PER WEEK!!!!
30,000 American casualties!
4,000,000 Iraqi civilians displaced, and another 2,000,000 who've fled the country.
2b per week. PER WEEK!!!
And let me also noteh that a lot of opur soldiers that died in Vietnam were killed on American-owned land, such as that of Dole fruit plantations and Goodyear rubber tree groves and plantations.
If you look at the scene in Full Metal Jacket where DaFoe's character is left behind by the blackhawk for the black pajamas to get him, a very subtle but real subliminal comment is made... llook at the trees - they are all in rows. It was filmed that way NOT by accident or for lack of shooting location.
And now our soldiers are dying on American Corporate owned soil and townships instead of for rubber to keep America's cars going, but for the oil that's under it... to keep Amrica's cars going.
As a former combat unit Army soldier who advanced into OCS (Officer's Candidate School) to become an Officer commanding my own platoon... I saw the writing on the wall and although I feel some guilt for leaving and seeing my freinds come back missing tings like arms, ears, eyes and their souls... I cannot deny that I know I'm not fighting for someone else's greed to keep their summer home in the Hamptons.
I said 4 years ago to my friends. "You just watch. This will be the Vietnam of our generation."
I wish I was wrong.
War: sparked by oil, fueled by greed.

Re: Daily Show: Rock Me Petraeus
Again, we all know Petraeus is a liar. I mean, he obviously got to be a top general by lying his ass off. I think we should totally ignore what he says and withdraw everyone from Iraq immediately. That'll show those stinky republicans.
