Mr. Rogers Farewell
Mr. Rogers' farewell speech for those who grew up with him.
Aug 26, 2007 5:16 PM
Re: Mr. Rogers Farewell
The recent post of Fred Rogers in front of the US Sentate reminded me of this truly moving talk from the man who taught so many of us the simple virtues of life. Fred Rogers is no longer with us, and perhaps we have outgrown his television programs, but if we remember his message we can find meaning in our lives by loving and respecting the people around us and taking delight in the simple pleasures of life, as this man once taught us.
Lifelong friend, and perhaps beyond life-long. I miss you.

Re: Mr. Rogers Farewell
Wow, what a great speech. I never grew up with Mr. Rogers on TV as most of my television time was with only a few channels.
And when I did get it, I looked at him as a freaky, old man. And the butt of many jokes. To which i feel sorry, and now realise how great a man he was, and how important he was for alot of people growing up.
May the fates serve you well, Fred.

Re: Mr. Rogers Farewell
If everyone took the philosophies and practices of Fred Rogers to heart, and really tried to put them into daily use, think what a much better world this would be.
Thank you, Mr. Rodgers...in a world chock full of George Bushs, Michael Vicks, Leona Helmsleys, Saddam Husseins, Jesse Helms, Paris Hiltons, Mel Gibsons and countless other dregs and embarrassments, you show that humanity still has some hope as a species. Perhaps the spirit of you (and the precious few like you) will guide our people in the future...I really hope so.

It feels like he is talking directly to you and no one else. I loved Mister Rodgers, and I wish he could come back.

I still think those red nosed puppets are freaky. Once that trolly starts a movin' - my fingers on the remotes start a groovin.

Re: Mr. Rogers Farewell
A truly important man's farewell words have to be heard.
This is why I give this five stars.
Mr Rogers' would have made Froebel and Wittgenstein proud. A new, new, grand, grand tradition just beginning.
Froebel founded the Kindergarden, where children should be treated as trees - watered, nurtured, loved and admired - don't take the trees for granted!
Wittgenstein, after writing THE theoretical treatise on theory (Tractatus Philosophicus) of the twentieth century, became a gardener and kindergarden teacher.
Under a mountain of crap I've learned along the way, there's a thin strand of Mr Rogers that may save my spirit yet.

Re: Mr. Rogers Farewell
I am 30 years old and it seems like just yesterday that I was running to the TV just so I could visit your neighborhood. Even know, I find myself checking in just to help me put things in perspective so I can "make the most of this beautiful day". You had a huge impact on my life and the lives of many others. You taught me how to make believe and how to express the feelings of frustration and anger that I felt quite often with my family. I cried at the news of your passing but your words and your creativity have truly made you immortal. Good bye my friend and my neighbor.
