I get burning it partly represents the time he burned his guitar at Woodstock, but why'd he actually go through and burn this? It's agonizing. He spent all that work, and it looked so great. Yeah, I need to stop sweating the small stuff.

Much art must be finished in such a way that requires it's apparent destruction. It gives some art a special quality in that it was ephemeral and therefore beautiful.

I understand why someone would be confused why something so cool looking would be ignited, but the way I look at it is this: It was made out of matches; what else was he going to do with it?

The Tibetan monks build the most beautifully detailed mandalas out of colored sand--and then sweep them away by the end of the day.
