Tesla is one of the greatest tragedies in history. He was a true scientist. A phenomenal genius, his science was inspired much like an artist is inspired on the canvas.
The only thing he ever cared for was science and next invention. He was unafraid to do all his own work and took many risks.
He cared nothing for money and didn't even patent half of his inventions. The patents he did own, he never received any royalties on. He was frequently stolen from. Unfortunately, he lived in an age of money and power with names such as Edison and J.P. Morgan.
Money was the name of the game and Tesla was playing at the pro level like a college freshman. Yeah, he showed a lot of promise, but for all his successes, the big boys ate him up and spat him out. He never gave up.
The beginning of the end came when Marconi, using numerous Tesla patents sent his now famous message across the Atlantic. Tesla was working on a similar project at the time. By similar, I mean while Marconi was building a sand castle in a sandbox, Tesla was building an Egyptian pyramid.
Due to the publicity associated with the Marconi project and the sheer amount of funds being pumped into Tesla's project, backers began to pull out. Not long after that experiment, Morgan, a long time supporter of Tesla, pulled all his financial backing. After that, everything started to fall apart and Tesla shortly fell into poor health. Tesla died on January 7th, 1943.
To this day, scientists still go over his notes and inventions trying to understand his mysteries.
There are many good books out there on Tesla. It is well worth finding out more about him as he was as great, if not a greater mind, than Einstein and others.
