Grateful Dead on Playboy After Hours
The year was 1969 and Hugh Hefner thought it would be cool to interview Jerry Garcia.

Security guards look after his drink to make sure no one doses Hef.

Two song performance, "Mountains of the Moon" followed by "St. Stephen's".

Bah, another correction. Sorry. The show was called "After Dark" and this particular clip is from January 18, 1969.

Also available in two parts on YouB()()0O0O00..b:

Re: Grateful Dead on Playboy After Hours
Yet another comment. Annoying, huh?

Anyway, I just read an excerpt from "Living with the Dead" by Rick Scully and David Dalton. (pages 159-161) These guys used to be the managers of the band in the early years. Anyway, it turns out that Hef was indeed the only one in the room who wasn't high. Owsley Stanley, the band's sound man was pissed at CBS for the way that he was being overridden when it came to all the audio decisions. So he dosed the coffee urn with acid. Supposedly, everyone had at least a cup before dinner. Everyone except Hef, who was scared silly of LSD and was drinking cola a sealed bottle and in a carefully guarded cooler.

Funny shit. No wonder Jerry went on that trippy answer when asked where the band was going from there. Heh-heh.
