Note the big ol' crucifix around Judy's neck. Somehow I doubt that she's a fan of Richard Dawkins'

Is bending a spoon a widely know trick? Have never heard anyone explain how its done - and surely if it was that widely known amongst magicians etc someone would have spilled the beans by now

They do, regularly, and their names are Penn & Teller. They follow in the steps of the Amazing Randi and Harry Houdini before him...

Just slowly rub the metal. The ideomoter effect will subconsciously amplify your muscle's movements, making you think external forces are bending it, when you're really just every so slightly pressing the spoon harder and harder. Look up ideomotor on Wikipedia. Uri Gellar also may have used a caustic chemical to soften the metal, as many suspect. He didn't like to do the trick with other people's spoons.

Bend the spoon several times before you do the trick. This will weaken the metal and make the bending part work much better later.

Re: Richard and Judy: Richard Dawkins
This could be a good thing. Richard Dawkins explains how great the real world can be, and why we don't need to believe in the superstitious to enjoy life. It's an enlightening viewpoint even for a theist willing to actually put weird new age claims up to the test.
Penn and Teller's style is fun, but they preach to the choir and insult the other side so much that the people they're trying to convince get turned off. Plus, they usually make a fairly weak and one-sided argument, and work in too many libertarian politics. They're funny when you agree with them, but if you disagree with them, they probably won't change your mind.
