In the industrialized world, Canada ranks number one— in its use of marijuana, that is.

Well, no it's not like the Netherlands here..you cannot sit in a cafe & toke away.
However, the general population certainly doesn't get too uptight about people who make pot their pleasure, so to speak.
Let's face it, if all of those unhappy couples & pissed-off neighbours were to smoke up instead of drink themselves silly...there would be a lot less utilization of police & a tremendous boost in peace & laughter. Not to mention a big boost in 'munchie sales'.
Weird to me how much paranoia there is in the U.S. about marijuana.

There are a number of cafes that you can bring your own weed and smoke; the New Amsterdam Cafe being one of a number in Vancouver.

Wait, did they just say that 12% of Americans smoke pot while it's only 6% in the Netherlands? So much for the war on drugs.

As with any prohibition, making most drugs illegal opens the market for those drugs to exploitation by organized crime syndicates. The consequences for many drug related crime are also to harsh, in my opinion. I see rapists and murderers serve less time than pot dealers. I dunno. The system as it stands reeks of corruption.

Re: Canada Gone To Pot
There are bring your own bud cafes downtown, and there are definitely alot of "delivery companies" and "video stores" where you can walk in to a menu of different strains on the table. However you kind of need to know where the find them.
The head shop where part of that was filmed (BC Marijuana Party bookstore) is usually chalk full of pot tourists (mostly americans) especially in the summer. I spend a bit of time downtown in the summer and always end up smoking and talking with a few of you guys.
