Bill O'Reilly loves to say shut up.
At least he used to, until he saw this sequence in Outfoxed.

Re: Bill O'Reilly: SHUT UP!
Who am I to defend Bill Orally? But he's right... from evidence in all those segments, he only told a guest (Glick) to shut up once. All the others were a portion of his commentary or during the CSPAN book piece with future Senator Franken.

Re: Bill O'Reilly: SHUT UP!
sorry to be a pedant, but he tells 3 people to shut up before the commentary ones.
But even then, any half decent, self respecting journalist wouldn't need to resort to using that terminology on air... OR to have a habit of talking over people that don't share his right wing opinions.
In essence, he is to journalism what Hitler was to race relations.

Re: Bill O'Reilly: SHUT UP!
O'Reilly would have us all just shut up. The steaming pile of rhetoric that is his show is the best example I can think of among the many fixtures in the on-going campaign to distract us from the things that really matter. He'll disparage Will Ferrell for making funny videos, and ignore the blunders and crimes of the worst President in history.
Re: Bill O'Reilly: SHUT UP!
Has nobody seen old clips of Joe McCarthy? He and Bill O'Reilly could be brothers - they rant and bully and lie the same way. I'm surprised more people haven't drawn attention to it.
For those that don't know, Joe McCarthy was a great 20th century American senator and patriot whose unrelenting campaigns against treasonous forces in the American government protected the United states from communist overthrow after World War II. So effective was his enthusiastic brand of patriotism that it's been named "McCarthyism" after him and can be found in any English dictionary. God bless America, and God bless the GOP.

Re: Bill O'Reilly: SHUT UP!
Maybe I'm dense. Were you being sarcastic about Sen. McCarthy? I certainly hope so. I'm not a blind partisan asshole, trying to make trouble. I'd love to hear more of your ideas. If you really DO like Sen. McCarthy, maybe you should read this?: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarthyism
Re: Bill O'Reilly: SHUT UP!
You weren't being dense, but I was being sarcastic. O'Reilly is an a$$hole.
As for McCarthy, one of the most depressing realities I have to live with about my country is that we've been through MCcarthyism (and HUAC and black listing, and Nixon, etc.), and we still haven't learned to recognize political evil when we see it. This makes me think that we may be doomed.
In an age where critical thinking, skepticism, and dissent, have been so effectively removed from the public's intellectual arsenal, as well as historical memory, what's to stop demagogues from overturning the world's greatest democracy? If Bill O'Reilly can be a hero to so many, why not McCarthy? Facts be damned...and the holocaust never happened, and evolution is a lie, and the sun goes around the earth, etc.
Plus O'Reilly even looks like him. Mean ugly little bastards.

Re: Bill O'Reilly: SHUT UP!
That's a really interesting parallel to draw. There ARE a lot of similarities. Senator McCarthy was opposed to such grievous Communist plots as the institution of "child labor laws," and "women's suffrage." He was a great man. Oh, yeah, there's also the civil rights violations, illegal wire-taps, and the detainment of innocent people with no legal basis. Don't confuse this with current events. This was McCarthyism. Bill O'Reilly is on the air because Rupert Murdock (the guy that owns Fox, and a number of other MAJOR news sources) is a Republican. Rupert Murdock is a Republican, not because of his religious beliefs, but because being a republican is good for business. Yeah, Billo is a lot like Senator McCarthy. I guess that's a good thing?
Don't take my word for it, read about the glorious days of McCarthyism, brought to you by the First Amendment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McCarthyism
